We were hoping for a great experience with very tasty thin sliced and well seasoned bulgogi, but ended up a bit disappointed in flavor, high cost, and quantity of food. We got 4 dinner meals (beef and chicken stone pots and shrimp fried rice). Flavor (4/10) - The flavor of the food was lacking, expecially the meats. Korean Bulgogi places are normally known for their great taste and flavored meats, but the meat had little more than its original flavor. Most bites just tasted like plain rice and vegetables. The red sauce wasn't too spicy and added some flavor, but not too much or it would be too spicy. Unfortunately, there wasn't really anything else to add flavor, but this dark sauce, which tasted alright (6/10), but we only got one teacup size container for 3 dishes! Miso soup (2/10) hardly had any flavor at all and definitely needs improvement. Cost/Quantity (5/10) - For the medium cost of about 17 dollars a person without drinks, it's hard to justify people not very full afterward. They admit (called to clarify) that there isn't really any difference between the "bowl" (cold) and "stone pot" (hot), same ingredients but stone pot costs $2 more?? Each dinner came with a miso soup, but it was probably literally one cup in each small container. Dinner meat in each dish was also lacking meat, and for over 17 dollars a person, it felt like just mostly rice and some mixed vegetables instead of what we came for -- the bulgogi! This place has a lot of potential, very friendly staff, but hope they improve to get some more...
Read moreBoth myself and my family are are in any way remotely that special brand of hipster-ish foodies that I admit fall in love with restaurants like this. We are just your average American family and are quite happy with pizza, hotdogs, mac and cheese, etc for 364 days of the year. Now Bulgogi has always been something we really liked and was easy to find when we were living in Derwood and had Rockville a few minutes away. Moving to western Maryland certain types of food are hard to find so when we came across a restaurant that was not only Korean but had Bulgogi in the name it was a must try. I can honestly say it is by far some of the best best Korean bbq probably in the entire tri-state area without upgrading to a black tie 5 star establishment. It is all authentic Korean fare and amazingly fresh and flavorful. The owners friendliness also adds that extra something. The only thing I can say that's less than positive is the price which is mostly from being spoiled in the DC area where Korean restaurants were everywhere. $12.99 for a decent portion of beef with generous sides. Overall it's one of the those small friendly gems you rarely come across out in an area you...
Read moreThis was a surprising find as we were driving east through Pennsylvania. It was a bit of a detour off of 81, and I was giving my son a hard time for taking us so far off course when we already had so long to drive, but the food was good, fresh, hot and authentic. The woman who greeted and served us--and whom, I assume, was the owner--was very sweet. Before we had even ordered she brought out complimentary miso soup and four kinds of pickles. I was very hungry and ordered the rice flour pancakes with shrimp and veggies; though it was listed as an appetizer, it satisfied me. It was served piping hot off the grill. My son got a two-choice dinner with spicy pork and bulgogi and thought it was good. If you're heading across the state on 81, are Jonesin for a good meal and don't mind a bit of a detour, this place is the ticket. Update: Just want to add that my son is 1/4 Korean, so we know good Korean food...
