Espresso 101 Class: I had the honor of taking the inaugural Espresso 101 class that was offered and I cannot recommend it enough. The class takes place after operational hours and can accommodate up to six students, giving it a private atmosphere that makes learning not intimidating at all.
The owner, Phil, was incredible at explaining all things espresso beginning with the science behind roasting and brewing, the mechanical importance and proper use of the equipment, and the unique flavor profiles of coffee from different sources. You can truly see that he has a passion for teaching and coffee.
Phil explained concepts through visual drawings, detailed verbal explanations, and guided active participation so no matter how you learn best, there's a way for you to be engaged. Each of us took turns grinding, weighing, brewing, frothing the milk, and pouring lattes behind the counter using the same equipment the baristas use.
We also learned about all the unique things Kin Coffee Co. does to set it apart from other coffee shops, like how they make their own syrups in-house, seeing their roasting machine, getting a sneak peak at their upcoming seasonal menu, etc.
I gifted this class to my boyfriend, who also loved the experience, and would 100% go back with friends.

Read moreI'm kind of a coffee snob. I'm a firm believer that if the core product is quality then the rest is also good. I go around tasting different espressos and cortados at every coffee shop I do research on. I came by Kin Coffee and my experience started off with the kindest, warmest, welcoming greeting from their baristas. They have your staple espresso drinks, seasonal menu, pour overs, and baked goods from Alon's. I got a double shot espresso and rwanda pour-over. I saw that the baristas carefully crafted each drink with precision and accuracy. The espresso was SO good, chocolatey notes with hints of citrus. Good amounts of crema and the presentation was beautiful. The pour-over was top-notch. It took 6 minutes to get but that's a given with pour-overs so I didn't mind. They also do all of their syrups in house. They roast their own beans as well. The space is beautiful. High ceiling with plenty of seats. They also have some patio seating as well. The wood to clean white aesthetic pairs perfectly with the natural sunlight that comes in through their windows. They have plenty of street parking and a small lot in the back, and it's FREE. It's truly a 10/10 place to check out. Loved everything about it. Definitely will be my go to spot...
Read moreA Smile and Basic Courtesy Go a Long Way – Unfortunately, Not at Kin's Coffee Shop. We had one of the most unwelcoming experiences at Kin's Coffee Shop in Chamblee. Hoping for a good cup of coffee, we were instead greeted with a harsh and unfriendly "we're closed" barked at us by the owner, who was chatting with friends at the bar. No smile, no courtesy—just an abrupt dismissal. When my friend politely asked what time they closed, we got another cold, clipped response: "At 3." That was it. As we turned to leave, the owner slammed the door behind us and locked it with unnecessary force. It was aggressive and left us stunned. If you're in the hospitality business, the bare minimum is to treat customers—even walk-ins close to closing time—with respect and a basic sense of decency. A smile, a warm tone, or even a simple “Sorry, we’re closed for the day” goes a long way. Needless to say, we won’t be back—and the only thing Kim’s Coffee Shop will be getting from us is this...
