It pains me to write this review as I was hoping to find a new sushi restaurant.
When will I learn ...if a Yelp friend gives an unfavorable review listen up! Well I wrote it off as it's a year old review and they've been around for a year so it's l likely to be better. Nope!!!
Arrived and stood as instructed waiting to be seated for almost 5 minutes. No problem we're not in a hurry.
Once seated another 5 minutes for the waitress to ask if we wanted anything to drink. It's 115+ degrees outside so we asked for water. Several minutes our water came. Another 5-7 minutes went by she took our order. Ok this is where it starts to really go down hill.
My husband ordered the 1 saki entree for $19.00. He said it was ok but inconsistent.
I ordered the 4 tempura, seasonal vegetables with rice and my choice of soup or salad. I asked what kind of salad, hoping for seaweed and was told that salad is not an option. Hmmm ok I'll have the soup. Was then told that doesn't come with the meal. I just look at her dumbfounded and point to the menu to show her. She said she'd be happy to bring me a miso soup.
8-10 minutes go by and the waitress brings my husbands food out. Two minutes later mine comes out. No soup and no rice. Before I can mention anything she's out of sight. When she does come back I mention the rice and was told that's not part of the meal. But she'll bring me some. By then I was done with what I was going to eat and told her to skip it. She said she'd be back with more water.
So for $10.50 I got four shrimp and 4 pieces of fried vegetables that I didn't eat. Ha if only ...the bill came, no water and husband paid. I'm looking over the receipt and my order rang up for $12.00. At that point it dropped another star as it was already paid and we have now been there for close to 1.5 hours. Keep in mind this is a very small place with two wait staff and wasn't packed.
Chalked it up as a learning experience.
2 stars as the atmosphere was clean. We didn't feel like anyone was mean or rude. Just inattentive and too many issues that couldn't be overlooked.
My advice....update your menu. You just lost 2 customers who eat sushi regularly.
Sadly, we...

I was feeling a bit adventurous, so instead of visiting the same sushi place near chandler, I searched sushi on Google Maps. There were a couple of places, and based on the good reviews, I drove to Hi5 Sushi.
My first impression of the place was not very impressive. It's clean, but other than that, the menu seems outdated (it is hard to explain. It is simple yet hard to read), and the ordering process was a bit off. So I felt like it was another dud, and I was going to mark this one like any other mediocre sushi joint in AZ (there are hundreds of them).
I am a Sashimi/Nigiri person and not much of a roll person; therefore, all my sushi orders were nigiri except for one tuna roll and some role that came with my Omakase order. I also had a Ramen and it was also pretty good.
Let me fast forward to receiving my first order. The presentation of the sushi is very good but oh man. When I took my first bite, all my perception of this place has changed 180 degrees. I am unsure how often I turned around to look at the Chef as I was blown away by the quality of the food.
I'll share a couple of areas of improvement—first, the rice. It was off. I was so impressed with the fish's quality and taste that I didn't examine what was going on with the rice, but the texture was a bit off (I felt like the rice was not cooked thoroughly). The place was also a bit slow, and I am sure this will improve as they build momentum, so if you are expecting to be going in and out, you might want to add a few extra mins.
Obviously, the couple of things I mentioned above didn't make that much of a difference, as my overall experience was very positive. Long story short, this is a hidden sushi GEM in Chandler and in AZ. I am going to be coming back for sure!! Try them out before they get huge and there is a long...
Read moreYes all the reviews are correct....amazing sushi in Chandler. 1st time in, I was so hungry I forgot to take pictures of the rolls. Alissa brought me a yellowtail nightmare roll that I may not of ordered without her....so glad she did...very flavorful! Very friendly service and excellent quality sushi, she did a great job even though they were very busy. Tried the standard rainbow, also delicious. Finished with spicy scallop nigiri. This is my new sushi restaurant in town. 2nd time in, craving the yellowtail nightmare, got pictures this time. They were not busy at noon on friday, Alissa served drinks, soup and 1st roll within 7 minutes. Nightmare 5 minutes later. I read some people were unhappy with service when they are busy. 1st of all, its totally worth the wait. 2nd they have a qr code, feel free to place your order for faster service when busy. 3rd....oh my goodness everything is so fresh and delicious. I got through half the yellowtail nightmare before I remembered to take a picture. My compliments to Chef Tommy! Great job everyone! Update, everything is still fresh and delicious. Linh took great care of me this time. They offer small beers now, I suggested it last time in, and they accommodated me. Finally brought my wife in. She enjoyed her Sushi on Fire. I went with the usual. Tommy always serves it up fresh, Nick took good care of us. I really like this local sushi restaurant, great energy and really great sushi! Tako Yaki was delicious, tried salmon bomber for the 1st time also since she only eats cooked rolls. Everything here is always fresh and appetizing. Service is always fast and friendly. Thank you...
