Iāve been living in AZ for about three years now. My wife and I have had a very hard time trying to find foods that were comparable to back home. Weāve traveled 45 min to an hour from where we live just to find good cultural cuisine. In our area thereās mostly big name chains. Iāve tried a few other Jamaican restaurants in AZ and have been disappointed more than a few times even after second attempts.
My wife came across Hot Pot Caribbean Cuisine at a food truck festival in Queen Creek on a Friday. She called me and told me she would be bringing me a Jerk Chicken Dinner with steamed cabbage, along with red beans and rice. I didnāt get my hopes up until she walked in and I could smell the seasoning from upstairs.
I came down and before I opened the styrofoam container I could see strands of steamed cabbage coupled with red beans and rice pouring out the sides. A wave of excitement came over me because I know this is how a container from a Jamaican spot is supposed to look. I open the container and was greeted by 3 pieces of chopped, (dark meat) jerk chicken. They were lightly sauced and momentarily resting peacefully on a bed of red beans and rice.
My wife watched me take my first bite anticipating my reaction. From the evidence leading up to the first bite, it was as I expected. My taste buds were assaulted with spices, seasoning, and smoke. Flavors you can only get from chicken, if you are properly cleaning and marinating it. The cabbage was soft and buttery. The rice was perfect. I ate one piece of chicken and closed the lid because I knew that if I ate it all in one sitting I would have to drive 45 min away just to get more which I ended up doing 2 days later. If you are a Jerk Chicken connoisseur like me, look no further.
I will say if you are not a fan of spicy food approach with caution. Personally donāt think itās overly spicy but I like spicy food. Other than that my initial reaction was 7.5/10 but had to give it a 8.5/10 because the food also reheats very well which is significant in my opinion when it comes to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was so excited to try this place after I saw the great reviews and wanted to love it but my experience was just the opposite and very disappointing. On Saturday 1/4 at 4:48pm I called in an order for a full jerk meal and a mini curry meal. The guy took my order and told me it would be ready in 25 minutes. I arrived to the restaurant around 5:15pm, paid for my food and they told me they were still working on it. I waited patiently because I saw how crowded it was. A few other people were waiting for take out orders and they had people dining in they had to attend to at the same time and I believe there were only 3 people working so I gave them grace. I ended waiting another 30 minutes until the lady calls me up to tell me theyāre out of curry chicken and asked if I would like jerk instead. I told her that was fine. She gave me my food a couple of minutes later. I left at 5:50pm!!! I was hoping the taste of the food would be well worth the wait but once me and my husband started eating we noticed the rice was not cooked all the way through. Most of it was still hard, hard pieces mixed in with soft pieces. Most of the rice at the bottom of mine was soft so Iām assuming the rice on top was a different batch. The cabbage also wasnāt as steamed or soft as I would like. The jerk was really the only thing that came out right. For the amount of time I waited i just thought they would be putting their time into cooking the food and making sure its up to satisfaction but what we received shows clearly...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAfter almost five years living in Chandler, I can finally say Arizona has a true Caribbean spot I can call my own.
Most Caribbean places in the Valley are either scattered or food trucks that are hard to track down. But today was differentāI was craving authentic island food and stumbled upon Hot Pot Caribbean Cuisine šÆš². My Jamaican side told me this was the answer, so I made the quick 10-minute drive.
The restaurant, located at Arizona Ave and Warner, immediately gave me a warm, welcoming vibe. Spacious, family-friendly, and full of that āhomeā feeling. The owners are wonderfulāgenuine, kind, and quick with service. My daughter felt so comfortable she was happily playing around while we waited.
Now, the food. If youāre new to Caribbean dishes, hereās my quick guide: ⢠Jerk Chicken ā Spicy, bold flavor. ⢠Curry Chicken ā Mild, flavorful, not too spicy. ⢠Curry Goat ā Tender goat meat, rich curry blend.
These three are a perfect starting point. If you canāt decide, get a comboāI went with curry chicken and jerk chicken, paired with a ginger beer (non-alcoholic but packs a kick).
The portion sizes were huge, the flavors were on point, and the priceājust over $30āfelt like a steal for the quality and amount of food. In my book, this is an easy 10/10.
Without a doubt, Hot Pot Caribbean Cuisine is the best Caribbean food Iāve had in Chandlerāand honestly, in the whole Valley. Iāll definitely be back with my...
