The food was great but if your a true Dominican from the east coast and you know what true Dominican food really taste like then this place is just a mock of the real deal. I ordered mondongo, Moro, pollo guisado, bistec encebollado, and they all were missing that powerful punch of flavors that I been missing all since I moved from Washington heights where most of the best Dominican restaurants are. The Moro and the rice tasted bland. All the colors of the food that made it look like the real deal where there but the flavors werent. The mondongo to was more soupy then it shud have. Mondongo has a thick rich flavor and the bistec was lacking on my taste and texture department. Not even at least a hint of salt. Overall it looks like real Dominican food but if you want the real deal take a plane to new York or Miami and you will know what true Dominican food taste like or even better if you have the money take a plane ride to Dominican republic and you will taste the best food of your life. All food taste a kick better then new York or Miami. Dominican food is all grown naturally due to the tropical weather and know hormones. So you will notice a big difference. By the way...the famous morirsoñando it was good but not the original taste.then again it's hard to replicate the original deal since everyone was brought up different so the owners of the restaurants parents have been brought up to make the drink a different way. For everything I ordered the price was too much. Should have been 30 dollars not 50 for the quality and taste . I rather have baught some Mexican food instead. But I paid for it thinking I would have finally found a place than can cook true tasting Dominican food. Once again this is coming from a born and raised Dominican so if you never tasted Dominican food then you might like it . It's not bad food. There are some things in here I want to...
Read moreCame here for lunch. Me being Puertoriqueño, you must know that I'm from the Bronx and I was so excited to see Mambo's Dominican Kitchen right down the street from where I live. Expectations are high. So I'm ready to eat!!!!
I ordered the empanadas as appetizers. 1 chicken and one beef. Why did I do that? Not a bad thing, I just figured they would be a smaller sized portion as an appetizer. They were your typical size empanadas. They were really good. If you're coming for lunch don't do what I did and looked at the menu and started eating with my eyes. Of course being my first time here I just wanted to try everything!
For my lunch I ordered the Carne de Res guisada. Comes with a side salad before hand. The plate came with white rice and beans. Couldn't go wrong here. Really good & traditionally made. My only complaint and it's only because I've been reducing my salt intake was that the Carne De Res was a little bit salty. Again, that's because I've been cutting back on my salt. But then again, I didn't leave anything on my plate neither. The meat was tender, no need for a knife, the fork cut right thru. Rice and beans were on point and once I got to mixing the salsa from the carne guisada it all went down!!!!!
Really good size portion for the lunch serving. I really felt that I got my money's worth. No need for any empanadas unless you're wanting to feel overstuffed like I was.
Good atmosphere friendly service. Wasn't waiting too long. Definitely a spot to keep in the circle of go to places if you want a home cooked meal. Definitely feels like home. They got it right.
I will be back here. Mofongo time next! Buen Provecho!!!!
Also, check out their lamps overhead. I'll let you see them when you go...

Me and my wife love Dominica Food. The restaurant is aesthetically pleasing and clean. We ordered appetizers (empanadas, fried yuca), a pork meal, a chicken meal, and a ham and cheese sandwich for the kids.
The restaurant was not busy since we went at 2:30 on a Saturday but it took a little over 30 minutes to get the appetizers. The cheese empanadas were great and I really enjoyed the green sauce. The beef empanadas just had beef inside. Most beef empanadas have some type of onion or cheese, but this one was only beef with little seasoning.
After we got our meal, about 30 minutes after our appetizers, we noticed the ham and cheese sandwich only had ham. We brought it to the attention of our waitress and she said would tell the cook.
The chicken meal was great so I have no complaints with that platter.
The pork meal was horrific. It was very tough and dry, and the beans had no flavor.
We brought the issues to our waitress and she said, "I'm sorry" then handed me the check for the full amount. I asked her what she could do about the dry pork and the ham and cheese sandwich that only had cheese and she just took off 10% from our bill.
My wife did not eat any of the pork and only 1/4 or her rice and beans.
I used to work in the food industry and we were taught strong customer service skills. In this case, the waitress should have:
In the restaurant I used to work in, we would have comped the entire meal because of the multiple issues.
If you go here, stick with the cheese empanadas...
