Pupatella — Restaurant in Chantilly

I was very excited about Pupatella opening up near me as I had heard a lot about how great the pizza was. My wife and I decided to try it out for the first time along with our 9yo son.

The restaurant is set up oddly but we were sat fairly quickly. It took a long while for a server to arrive at our table. By that time we had decided what we all wanted.

We ordered two appetizers and 3 pizzas as that’s what the menu suggested. The wait for the food was fine, if a bit on the long side. However our server never came by to check on our drinks or let us know when the food would be out. She would literally try to avoid eye contact as she walked by.

Eventually our pizzas arrived, but no sign of our starters. The server forgot the cheese we had specifically asked for. After that request she completely stopped coming to our table and started asking other servers to bring our food out. She never came back to our table after that time.

After repeated requests our starters finally arrived at the table…after we had finished our pizzas and my wife was so frustrated she just wanted to leave. We ate the food which was fine, but not good enough to make up for the shoddy service. We were looking forward to the tiramisu but my wife was definitely not in the mood anymore.

The server still never came back to our table and the busboy brought us our check. As a rule I usually tip 30%. I’ve worked in the service industry and respect the effort that goes into it. By this point however, I didn’t even know who I was tipping. I left a 18% tip on the mobile checkout gadget and ironically left the restaurant with a bad taste in my mouth.

After eagerly waiting months for Pupatellas to be built and open, I seriously doubt I will ever go back....

The pizza is good. Thin crust with a slight chew. Good toppings and decent creations. Very overpriced for what you get. Service during this visit was awful. Waited at least 10min to be seated even though there was plenty of tables. Host was engaged in convo and signaled at us that he would be right with us, but we wound up seating ourselves with a nod from the host that the seats we chose were fine. Server and food runner needed way better training. Asked for details on what the "Italian cream sauce" is on the white pies and it was described to us as "flavorless gravy before the gravy turns brown." Why would you describe anything on your menu as "flavorless"??? It tasted like a bechamel, by the way. Bechamel!! Server was also very slow. We waited almost 15min for her to come and take our order. Waited another 15min for her to bring us the check. The frittura sampler was well fried, but everything was underseasoned. A dash of salt soon as it came out of the fryer would've done wonders. The runner came with our pizzas and asked whose was what. Didn't name any of the pizzas. Just shoved them in our faces to look at and left us to decipher what belonged to everyone. Wine glasses were riddled with water spots and looked filthy. Pizza was good, at least. Could've used more prosciutto on the seasonal pie, but it was tasty. Great chew on the crust. Measured up to what I would expect from Neapolitan Pizza. Not worth the price or bad service though. Would pass if it was...
