I visited on a less busy Friday evening and easily placed my order with a welcoming staff member. The interior looks relatively clean and has seating for roughly ten tables inside and another couple outside. This place tends to get a fair amount of call-in and online orders from what I could see of foot traffic and time front staffers were taking phone orders. My order consisted of chicken tenders and cole slaw, a Chicago hot dog, and a Philly burger medium rare with regular fries. The total came to $30 with tax and before tip about which I did not feel too bad from a value perspective. The wait time of 25 minutes to get my food surprised me somewhat given the lower level of busyness even if I made allowances for the phone and online orders. I likely would follow others with either calling or placing an order online for any future visits.
The chicken tenders had good texture on the outside. I did wonder whether these tenders may have been more processed than others from what I tasted. The accompanying honey mustard sauce looked and tasted as expected. The cole slaw had good texture and just a little more and sweet dressing for my tastes. The Chicago dog had satisfying flavor from the mustard, relish, onions, and peppers. The hot dog itself was cooked well and had a distinct beefy flavor to me. Toasting the bun would help the roll have some texture and taste inside. Same with the beef burger which otherwise was cooked to the requested temperature and had a pleasing ratio of beef to cheese to toppings to bread. Toasting the bun seemed even more important here to avoid a somewhat soggy bottom bun. The regular fry order had a proper portion of not over seasoned and slightly crispy fries that survived the ride home well. All in all a more than decent meal that could be made better with quicker in-person wait times and toasting bread for the main offerings. I could return in the future to experience a local, non-big brand chain small business...
Read morebest burger place I have ever been to. I have eaten gourmet burgers, fast food burgers, hipster burgers and every kind of burger you can imagine. But no burger place has ever come close to the consistency and quality of The Burger Shack. I have gone there 5+ times, and every single time I finish my burger in around 20 seconds. It is almost a craze, where I do not realize I am not chewing until all of my food is gone. If I could live here, I would. My go-to order is the Ring of Fire Burger with onion rings and it never fails to disappoint. The thing is, with all of these smash burger places and fancy schmancy burger places you forget about the magic of a classic burger, and that is where it hits the hardest. The only burgers with this meatiness (the kind where they ask how you want it done) are ones that I make. The wait is 5-10 minutes, and the place "appears" a little dingy (maybe even a little shady). But that is the magic of these kinds of places. You arent gonna get this magic from a fancy restaurant. sure the food might be nice and taste good, but it doesn't have the soul. It has the feel of a secret, old vintage diner in the deep south of some town u have never heard of. the food is made with heart, albeit not the healthiest. It has that secret, almost vintage charm. There is little to no wait and the people there are relatively friendly. All in all, I have to limit myself to eating there once a month to preserve the mythicness. It is for special occasions only. There are some days where you are craving a good, old fashioned, American burger and this place is for that. eat here if u...
Read moreTucked away on the side of a highway is this little burger shack. Aptly named “The Burger Shack.” The parking is bad but the seating is ample. Maybe it's slow. Maybe people get it to go. But today I am enjoying the ambiance of the area. Relaxing outdoors awaiting my meal. Let's see if the burger shack brings as much to the food as they do to the location. So far I am impressed. The young man that took my order greeted me with a smile as he asked me to wait while he took orders out to customers. I didn't mind the wait as I could see that every employee was diligently working at their position. And while I feel that they may be a person short, they truly make up for it with charm. I don't know if it comes naturally or the young man has been trained well. Either way, it was an enjoyable experience just to wait.
The food was well made and presented nicely. You can tell that everyone took care in the preparing the dish. However I wasn't throughout impressed. I was expecting a fantastic taste with varying complexity as advertised in their menu. Their special sauce may be special to them, but not to me. It was quite lackluster.
Final thought, the shack got me in the door but the experience will have me return. If I am treated half as well as I was today, every visit will be fantastic. Hopefully they can get a few minutes of time to experiment with recipes as I truly feel that their passion for their business mixed with a bit more time, will produce one of the best burger places on any map. I will return, and when I do, I know I will be...
