Beware of kids NOT allowed veggie toppings without being nickel-and dimed!! I took my two kids to the Folly Road California Tortilla for a quick dinner, thinking a couple of kids’ burrito meals ($7.49 each) should be simple enough, right? I go to check out, and was told it was $29. I’m not sweating the price, but I definitely thought, “Wait, did we accidentally buy a third burrito?” Turns out, nope. The very friendly (not) lady who seems to be the manger at the counter tells me kids’ meals apparently have a strict no veggies or beans allowed policy. Yep, you heard me right. My daughters just wanted a bit of pico, some lettuce, olives and some beans on their burrito. Big mistake. We got charged for each microscopic sprinkle of veggies they dared to request onto their mini burritos. Since when are kids forbidden to add vegetables and beans to their burritos? And why not put this no-veggies-for-kids rule on the menu? The vibe inside was… let’s say “interesting.” Employees seemed not so happy to be there and “the lady at the counter” was just flat out was rude. I wondered why there was no one in line or eating in the this location at prime dinner time and now I see why. So, heads-up to all the parents: if your child dares to crave anything green or red on their burrito, be prepared to get nickel-and-dimed and receive the worst customer service on James Island. And I have to mention the burrito wrapping.., which was a masterpiece of failure. I’m not sure who trained the “lady burrito artist”, but let’s just say my kids would have done a better job. The veggie manager herself wrapped these sad excuses for burritos, and she clearly missed the day they taught Burrito Wrapping 101. My kids barely touched them before they turned into a pile of beans, rice, and regret. We ended up with a burrito bowl…minus the bowl. They barely ate half of it which defeated my attempt to get them some protein and veggies for dinner. Would I go back? Only if I’m feeling brave enough to navigate the veggie blacklist again and I’ll ask for the burrito in a bowl and save everyone the hassle… (and I bet you the rude manager lady will charge you for asking for kids...
Read moreI’m a regular customer I have been eating from California tortilla for about 1 year.the best restaurant staff I’ve ever encountered they are All incredible and kind and they already know who I am when I come through the door.I order a lot bit of everything but my favorite item is the nacho taco melt and their bowl. They do have the best chips and queso I get a large queso every time I go and their lemonade is absolutely perfect I have had lemonade from a lot of restaurants but they do take the cake.their food is fresh and I just be having to get double protein of steak and chicken I love their quesadillas and burritos the staff is always smiling at you and just being very heart warming and this is what I absolutely adore about caltort because I have been in many restaurants where the staff is just rude and doesn’t care about their customers but I have never felt uncomfortable or unwelcome in caltort and I prefer caltort then a lot of restaurants and food places.they have never rushed me while I was being indecisive about my order. I have been to restaurants where the servers rolled their eyes at me or huffed and puffed at me for taking ‘to long to order’ but since caltort is a walk in build your own food type of place I can walk in and just feel like I can be myself and not get nervous or anxious about telling the staff what I want to order ! I look so forward to eating here because I literally could eat their nacho taco melts everyday they are just so good, ground beef is one of my favorite foods ever and I love cheese so that being wrapped in a flour tortilla with queso and pico is literally one of the best things I’ve ever tasted
My normal order : I tend to order 2 nacho taco melts,a bowl with rice, steak, grilled chicken, fajita veggies, pico, extra pickled red onions and extra cheese sometimes a light lettuce my drippings are a large queso and a small pico but sometimes I forget to add the small pico but I want to try their guacamole really bad but I always try to get a large chips.I enjoyed their...
Read moreI really like California Tortilla. I've eaten here a few times and have yet to be disappointed. I always get a burrito. It appears to be a 14 inch tortilla so you probably won't leave hungry. Especially, if you get a side item. I usually don't and have yet to finish a whole burrito in one sitting. They have plenty of ingredients for their menu items as well. Today's "build your own" burrito had rice, black beans, shrimp, steak, guacamole, fresh jalapeños, shredded queso, and spicy burrito sauce. They aren't stingy with their meats either! My burrito had to weigh a solid two pounds! Along with "build your own" options they have regular menu items that look great including bowls, tacos, nachos, quesadillas, and salads. One of my favorite things about California Tortilla is their literal wall of hot sauces. They range from Texas Pete to specialty hot sauces like Dave's Insanity Sauce. They have to have a hundred different sauces to choose from. California Tortilla has always been clean when I've been there. For example, today at lunch there were four folks dining seperately, three families with multiple kids (10 total) and I watched the beverage station get wiped down twice while I was ordering takeout. When I filled my drink the whole area was immaculate. The cup lids were even in order. That's quite impressive. My total today was a little less than 15 bucks for a burrito and fountain drink. Of course, the "build your own" option is more expensive. You could save a few bucks if you ordered straight off their menu. But, I didn't balk at the price at all considering I'm getting supper...
