Harbor Freight — Local services in Charleston

I went to purchase a generator here some time ago. I asked questions and made sure what I was getting myself into. Ask the store clerk who referred me to the supervisor. Supervisor tells me there is a restock fee of 20% if I were to return it, however, it would be waived if I were to get an extended warranty. So after which, I went on my way to purchase my item. But I wanted to he sure I would receive a full refund if I were get the extended warranty. So after not only being reassured by the Store Manager, but the General Manager, that I would receive a refund on everything, I left with my generator. After realizing I wouldn't need it no more, I returned it to the store in the same manner they gave it to me. Packaged and undamaged. But when I returned, they told me I was still going to be charged a restock fee. After speaking with the store manager, it was clear they would not honor the word they gave me before I left the week prior. So spending $90 on a restock fee, I went to meet the workers who would take the generator back inside. Only for them to ask ME to take it out and put it on their cart. Guess I spent $90 for a restocking fee that I ended up doing for them. It's a shame, I heard very good things about Harbor Freight. Guess they aren't as good...

Review for Harbor Freight in North Charleston

I purchased a Predator Ghost 212 engine and an accessory kit from Harbor Freight in North Charleston a week ago. When I attempted to return both items unopened and in their original boxes, I was informed there would be a restocking fee unless I swapped them for another engine. Unfortunately, the engine I wanted was out of stock.

The employees suggested another location that had the engine I needed, so I traveled 15 miles to that store. Upon arrival, I was informed I would still be charged a restocking fee on the accessory kit, even though I was purchasing a different engine.

While I usually have good experiences at Harbor Freight, this situation was disappointing. The lack of clarity in their return policy and inconsistent communication among employees led to unnecessary hassle. If I had known, I might have just kept the original purchase and avoided the trouble.

I purchased a Chicago electric stud welder from this location. I was not informed when I made the purchase of any return fee fees, restocking fee fees. So they just charged me $20 on $100 product to restock it which means that they’re going to put a busted piece of equipment back on the floor to sell you guys....
