The hostess, kitchen, and service staff were all friendly. Curtis was our server and he was knowledgeable and professional. The atmosphere was a great mix of retro dinner and contemporary decor. The menu was impressive. Shared the homemade chips with friends. They are cut like ruffles and had an excellent crunch. We didn't get one soggy weird chip among the plate, which is not usually the case with chips made in house. The star of the meal was the chicken and waffles. I gotta tell you two things about fried chicken and my perspective - I don't usually order or prefer bone in chicken and I strongly prefer spicy. This chicken was bone in and not spicy, but it was the most delicious crispy crunchy fried chicken I've ever had. Those waffles with the strawberry butter were just immaculate. Fluffy waffle pillows on which rest a scoop of the enticing pink strawberry butter. This was absolutely amazing, two of the 3 of us had ordered it, and both of us felt the same way. If you're thinking about eating here, do it. I will be back and it will be soon, because if the shrimp and grits are as good as the chicken and waffles... *UPDATE* I've been back several times. The shrimp and grits are indeed very good. I always get either them or the chicken and waffles. My friend recommends the pot roast as well.

Food: Half Fried Chicken and Waffle. My first-time visiting this establishment was superb. The fried chicken was fried to perfection. The crunch, the color, the texture. I think I ate the bones. FOUR PIECES OF CHICKEN. the leg, thigh breast, and wing came with this meal. The chicken came with a honey/BBQ mixture that spoke to my soul. The Belgium waffle was light and fluffy with a nice golden brown hue. Also, I tried the bacon, eggs, and cheese with grits. The grits were not my thing. Everything else was pretty tasty. The service: It was a busy Saturday morning. The wait was about 25 minutes. It's definitely worth the wait. The server we had was busy. The food came out quickly. Other workers helped her out with guests. The atmosphere: Check out the wall for specials such as drink, teas and meals. It was giving diner vibes. Seating includes table, boothes, and hightops.

I stumbled on Metro Diner while running some errands and I’m so glad I did. I took a seat at the counter and had a bird’s eye view of the kitchen at work. The cooks were organized, efficient and moved around the grill and kitchen with ease. My breakfast consisted of a veggie omelet which was stuffed with an abundance of fresh veggies (asparagus, mushrooms, peppers, onions) and I loved the shredded hash browns which were perfectly cooked. I also had some yummy grain toast. My entire meal was outstanding! I took a picture to share with my husband who was out of town and now he definitely wants to go. Both my waitress and the host who seated me were friendly and attentive. An extra bonus was I sat next to a sweet father/daughter couple and had a lovely conversation about their upcoming Thanksgiving plans with extended family. The whole experience made my day!!

leonb463 Charleston, South Carolina 93 Pending review Poor customer service We have gone to the Metro Diner many times, but we have never experienced the horrible service that we did this time. We arrived at about 12:15 for lunch and was seated promptly. We waited about 10 minutes before we stopped a server to find out who our server was. She left and came back to take our drink order and stated that our server would be with us shortly. About another 10 minutes passed and we stopped someone who said he was the manager about when our server was going to be by to take our order. He went to find her. Alani then came and took our order. She did apologize for the wait. We then waited and waited for our food. When we asked Alani why it was taking so long she said waiting on the fries. Another 10 minutes went by and we stopped the manager who said they were waiting on the chicken. No apology from the manager. Mind you we placed our order with Alani at about 12:40, our receipt says it was placed at 1:06. Evidently Alani forgot to enter our order. We paid the bill at 1:33. She did subtract the drinks from our bill. Due to the horrible service that we received today, we will more than likely not...

Went for a weekend breakfast--got there before they opened and by the time the doors opened, there was quite a crowd waiting (luckily we were there first!). Small place, but felt pretty private sitting in a booth. Heather is an All-Star Server! She found out it was our first time there and pointed out the daily specials and shared her personal favorites and recommendations. She even gave us a printed menu to take and urged us to come back and try their lunches and dinners. The food was good--hubby had an omelette with hashbrowns and toast, I tried a "side order" of biscuits and gravy (2 huge fluffy biscuits smothered in sausage gravy) and we shared a short stack of pancake (well, because you have to have at least four carbs on the table . . . !). The line of diners was pretty steady through our meal and the servers were very busy moving food and people throughout our breakfast. When we left there was still a line at the door--now I understand why they have FIVE benches outside their restaurant! Highly recommended and ask for Heather if she's available--she will take care of you and...
