I will forever dream about this meal.
We’d been on the island for four days already and hadn’t been fully satisfied by a meal. All the food we’d had was good, but not great. However, locals from every part of the island said we HAD to try 13. I was skeptical because it was just “American” food but DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS PLACE. It was seriously perfect, delicious/to die for from start to finish. Add that to the beautiful view from the restaurant and super kind owner, waiter and chef!
To start we shared the mussels and the pear salad. You know how you can have mussels and the mussels themselves are good but the broth is just meh? Well this broth we wanted to take home to drink it was PERFECT. Mussels were cooked beautifully, too and it didn’t even matter the bread wasn’t fancy (nothing to write home about) because it soaked up the broth so good. But as incredible as those were I cannot say enough good thing about the friggin pear salad. If I could eat something every day, I would have this salad. I’ve never had such amazing blue cheese in my life and I don’t even normally like cheese. The arugula and spinach were so fresh, the vinaigrette I can’t even describe but also delightful and the pears were unreal. I don’t even have words, y’all this salad is foodgasmic.
I personally had to scallops and it wasn’t enough because my tastebuds wanted more!!! The squash purée was slightly sweet with the cranberry on top, plus salty roasted vegetables and perfectly cooked scallops, ugh omg my mouth is watering thinking about it.
As for the cinnamon roll bread pudding (which may not be available it was a special), basically take a churro in the form of bread pudding and make it UNREAL. Homemade ice cream too. Crunchy on the outside, sweet and soft on the inside.
So yeah all that to say, if you’re visiting the Virgin Islands and you don’t go here… you did vacation wrong (or you...
Read moreOur group (4 adults, 1 toddler) went in for Sunday brunch. We arrived right at 10 when they opened and were the first in the restaurant for the first several minutes. Our server came over and offered us water - still, tap, or sparkling. We asked for tap but when we got the bill were charged for still. She said that it was the “perfect amount” for us each to have a glass. 1 glass, and we were never offered any more when we were out. Mind you it was 90 degrees and our entire time at the restaurant was about 90 minutes. My toddler was also never offered water or any beverage. It was another 15 min after the water came before she asked if we want to order food or other drinks. We ordered a round of drinks and our food. Another 20 min and she never once came back to check on us. We eventually walked up to the bartender to order a second round. We saw our food sitting on the counter, but it would be another 10+ min before it made its way to our table, some of which was too cold to eat. We sent it back. Our server did not come back until our plates were empty to ask if we need anything and we just took to check. No apology for any delays, the issues with food, or the water discrepancy. Every restaurant can have a bad day but simply checking by our table or the slightest apology would have gone a long way with us. We come to the island often but I would never return here. We tried to email the owners before posting this review, as the email is posted on the building, but it bounced lol. So here we are. The only stars are for the food that was warm was delicious. Too bad the service was...
Read moreFood was OK, but the service was absolutely abysmal. We came in at 12:00 PM on a Sunday. There probably weren’t more than 10 patrons in the place besides our party of four. Our drinks came slowly and we ordered. Our orders were simple, breakfast dishes, nothing complex. We waited and waited, and apparently we began to look a little quizzical or impatient, and our waitress assured us that “they are working on it.” But apparently they were not. After another 20 minutes patrons around us who had arrived significantly later, began to receive their meals that also didn’t look particularly complicated to prepare. At that point, our friends who were hosting us, sought out a manager, and he looked into it and concluded that our order had never gotten to the kitchen. Our waitress informed us that it was an error in their automatic system, which I kind of doubt. However, the waitress should have been observing what was going on and should have made inquiries, especially when other people who had come in after us were being served. Our friends felt sorry for the waitress and asserted, that wasn’t her fault. I didn’t want to cause distress to our friends, s pop I kept quiet. There was no offer to comp any portion of the meal. If my wife and I had been there without our friends. I would’ve been more direct with the manager or more likely I would’ve walked out and gone to a grocery store and bought a candy bar.
The food was unexceptionable. If you’re from the south avoid the grits. If you’re from the north order the grits to confirm your opinion that grits...
