This museum was part of a cancelled excursion that we had booked through the cruise line, and we liked the sound of it, so we hopped a taxi from the cruise terminal to the museum- it was about a 10 minute drive, and it is located directly attached to the skyride, would have been simple to do both but for the rain and clouds, so we decided to skip the skyride this visit. The museum tour stars with a short video talking about the history of shipwrecks and the local history, then we were admitted to the main museum. The museum guide was awesome, he was very knowledgeable about the history and artifacts in the displays, and was enthusiastic and entertaining! The displays were interesting and informative, with some hand's-on exhibits such as a hurricane wind simulator, and the gift shop had a fascinating collection of actual coins from various shipwrecks, curated by a very knowledgeable woman who showed us several beautiful coins that had been recovered from several shipwrecks through history and told us about them- I found her explanation of the coins as interesting as the exhibits themselves, but these historical artifacts could be purchased and taken home if desired! The helpful woman at the register called a taxi to take us back to the pier, and we wrapped up our visit...
Read moreNote to travelers…we took our children to this establishment. While trying to purchase tickets to the Pirate museum, my daughter brushed against a two-tiered wobbly display table and knocked over a decorative, mini telescope. The telescope was not broken, but a decorative screw could not be screwed back into the object. I kindly offered the store a monetary value sufficient to replace the item and assured them they could keep the item, to which they told me, almost too quickly, that they would have to call the police. We debated for about 10 minutes and elected to pay the full price and take the item with us. While understandable on the one hand, and clearly, my daughter has to take responsibility, the store is a tourist attraction for families and you are forced to walk past these display tables to purchase the museum tickets. Why display these (relatively) expensive items on a wobbly table right when you walk in the door? Not wise on their part and they refused to take any responsibility. Needless to say, our Pirate Museum experience was short lived and it definitely wasn’t worth the cost of admission. Save your money, and go up to the market at the top of the ride. Much better shopping...
Read moreThis place was one of my favorite places at Virgin Islands. I have always had a passing interest in pirates and sunken ships. It had it all. At first I thought it was going to be a silly tourist trap but no they have historians gear. And wonderful interactive events. My favorite being able to operate Zues by collecting coins.
The staff there are freaking great honestly you are missing out if you are shy. The first person with the viking tattoo to the security lady were some of the coolest people on the island.
I met an amazing pirate there named John who was amazingly authentic. And gave me his grog recipie If you are reading this John if I am ever in the area again or you discover a way to sail to Colorado we gotta share some rum on me.
Whole place was 99% authentic from what I could tell, but the only very minor issue was they had an iron maiden in the brigg. This was not a thing. The iron maiden itself was cool but maybe in an exhibit with other torture devices or some sort of room that you have to escape in. Other than that I would go there every...
