Visited this place today after hearing nothing but rave reviews. Why?
You walk into a interestingly decorated establishment, the first thing to catch my eye was the queue, likely around 40 - 50 people, which went well with the 3 staff working the counter, unsurprisingly 30 mins later we get to the counter, it would probably be far later than this if people were not just walking out, i saw one guy complain about waiting 20 minutes for a sandwich after he ordered it.
I ordered a dozen mixed macaroons, a napoleon slice (or not, a napoleon slice or aka the Mille-feuille has creme de anglaise, this just had whipped cream, so be aware for other cheap fake items carrying a steep price) a Pain / pate champignon sandwich with a chicken and bacon soup to go and sent the slice back. My wife ordered the leek soup What i received can only be described as trash worthy, i wish i checked it in the restaurant because it would have gone right back.
On the note of fake menus, you will notice the 'chicken and bacon' soup that was left unsealed in our bag leaked and entirely drained into my car carpet (Thanks, thats going to be a full shampoo to clean out), you will notice the lack of ingredients other than some really bad smelling chicken with pepper on it and onion, likely the unsold remnants of an earlier dish certainly the chicken has not been 'fresh' for some time, of a very poor quality or just so overcooked as to lose all texture.
But the 'piece de resistance' you could say was my sandwich, now in Europe this would be a baguette or baton with pate spread over it, it's a classic french dish because it's so cheap and good much like duck confit, i was given, well, you describe it... I weighed the pate incidentally and there was less and a oz of pate in the entire sandwich, and gherkins.... in a classic french sandwich... please. Then i got to wait 30 mins for them to get the order wrong to top it off. In total i was in store for almost an hour getting a sandwich.
More on this pate though as this is frankly amazing, im a big fan of pates so i was excited to see this on the menu, so pate should be a liver (pork and chicken) based pate in this case featuring mushrooms and a flavor of sherry, this however was sliced with a deli slicer so i have no idea what they started off with, but what you will be given is a bland pink/grey slice of luncheon meat with fatty lumps, which is worrying as there should be no fats added to a pate anyway no sign of a mushroom or sherry in sight.
Frankly if i could give negative scores i would, the food is inedible and to me what is worse is that its fake food, the macaroons are stale and im down $40 for what was in effect a half cup of soup as the rest is inedible and discarded, another $60 for the carpet shampoo so, if you ask me how my $100 half cup of soup was, I may spit at you. Avoid this place like the fake hole it is, on behalf of France and good food everywhere, I apologize to you all for this place.
Most of all though this place represents itself as an authentic French place even the menu is in French what they serve however, well When i was working a kitchen i had a French head chef that loved to shout this 'C’est des conneries je ne donnerais pas cela à l'anglais' fits this place perfectly. Love to give it a second try maybe another location but after this, just no.
Avoid this place, avoid it hard.
Edit: I gave the pate to my dog, they wouldn't...
Read moreHello Viewers,
Before I departed from Charlotte from my last day of the business, I was browsing around and see if there are any local Cafe, and I decided to go Amelie French bakery & cafe for my last stop. This is my second french bakery shop for my breakfast. I am guessing Charlotte has a lot of French influence? my requirement is simple, as long as cafe provides specious work/relax environment, variety of the foods, and ok internet connection, they are my go-to cafe, and this Amelie's French bakery & cafe is definitely one of them. (I did not go to another one, so I can't be sure the others)
French bakery shop is known for their sweet tooth bakery, and they offer any possible pastry that you can think of. on the top, the shop also offer breakfast sandwich, lunch style food offer the customers from the whole journey from savory to sweet, cold to hot. I order Monte Cristo with cappuccino and ending with petite pecan tart, they are freshly made and delicious to eat. this cafe is spacious I estimate can fit around 50 people comfortably, in fact the place is too big the store decoration is a bit eccentric that they put everything French related into the decoration. I guess it's the French style that everything needs to be add to the flourish 😆
in summary, if you visiting Charlotte town, please be sure to spend around 3 hours to visit Amelie's cafe to enjoy the delicious foods, comfortable seating, and kind staff.
P.S - did I mention their internet Is...
Read moreThis is an adorable little spot hidden away in the corner of a residential neighborhood, that's easily missed if you don't know what you're looking for. Like other Amelie's locations, they are mostly well known for their pastries and coffee, but I went with a friend to sample their other menu items. I ordered a wrap, and she, the French onion dip(officially, some kind of toasted beef sandwich with melted cheese that you dunk in the bowl of French onion). Both were incredibly hot and fresh. It was delivered to our table in a timely manner, and it tasted pretty consistent with other locations. Not too expensive, and the decorations were fun and lighthearted. I attached images about the surrounding visuals just so you can get a better sense of the atmosphere. I give it top marks for a chill afternoon rendezvous. When we arrived it was already black dark out, but the place was still fairly packed. I figure they must be doing something right. Not exactly my scene, but I completely get it. We were there for about 3 hours talking, and the staff didn't bother us at all. I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking to study, or write over your coffee. It was much too loud for that. Many parents brought crying children, and they seemed almost encouraged to let them run around at a breakneck pace. Don't come if you expect relaxation. It's more like a tiki bar, or a mall terminal. Teens and young adults are heavily encouraged to...
