Captain D's — Restaurant in Charlotte

The experience was horrible. Wanted to try something different so I ordered the mini boo boo shrimp and sausage jambalaya. The small tiny shrimp were full of bowel movement, it was more bowel movement than shrimp meat. It was watered down I didn't see any sausage. When spoke with MacKenzie management at the time about that particular dish, and asked if I could switch out that particular dish for something else? I was going to buy an additional fish plate anyway. She stated she could not switch it out just because I did not like it, I stated to her that was false advertisement, I had no idea the shrimp was going to be so tiny, and the dish was going to be so watered down again she stated that she couldn't do it and wouldn't do it. I then requested corporate number she stated that I will be speaking with corporate manager by the name of Henry. My only problem with this is that customers are always right, we spent$35 in Captain D's and I can't switch it out for something that I want that's not listed as a false advertisement nott to mention about the cleanliness of the establishment it is filthy windows are nasty it looks like they've never cleaned their Windows a day in a year or so floors are filthy bathrooms nasty it's a few good workers in the like the one that that accepts the money the cashier I don't blame her for asking for tips she deserves it, in the Drive-Thru worker he's a nice guy even though he has to stand at that nasty filthy dusty dirty drive-thru window all day to take orders but he does a good job and the cook is awesome!! And they have other employees a few crackhead is working there they are in and out the door the whole work schedule. I advised that no one I MEAN NO ONE GOES TO EAT THEIR CAPTAIN D'S SUNSET ROAD CHARLOTTE NORTH CAROLINA ESPECIALLY IF MACKENZIE IS WORKING. ALL RIGHT THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR LISTENING I AM IN THE PROCESS OF CONTACTING CORPORATE SO THAT I CAN GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS I DON'T WISH THIS ON ANYONE THIS EXPERIENCE WAS A TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE IT MADE ME NOT WANT TO EAT FISH EVER AGAIN I AM TOTALLY AGAINST FISH RIGHT NOW. IS CHICKEN FROM NOW ON I'M HOPING THAT THE BIRD FLU SUBSIDES NO MORE FISH FOR ME THANK YOU MACKENZIE...

I haven't been to Captain D's in a year or so because the last time I ate there I got sick. Well I am kicking myself right now because 2/25/17, I went back. I wanted some fish so bad and it wasn't a another place I could go, so with hesitation I went. I thought maybe it would be like it use to be before management change. I would go and the food was always fresh made to order, like I like it, i don't mind waiting at all. You can't have fish just sitting around, you can get sick or worst. Well first off I ordered the same thing I've always have and the cashier I felt tried to cheap me 10 pc fish only, large coleslaw and 2 orders of bread sticks. First the meal was done really fast I was shocked. It was not good. The fish was brown and did not look like it use to. I was really scared to eat it and i didn't. It was a waste of $25.00. The Manager also has a long ponytail and he is constantly in is hair and don't wash his hand after. I told him not to touch my food at all and made sure the cashier only handled my food. I won't be back.

UPDATE from 2/25/17 - It's February 26, 2019, yep it's been that long since i went back to Captain D's. and after saying i would never go again, but it is under new mgmt. I have to say the restaurant had a very fresh smell walking in. You can tell the Manager likes his store clean because i seen him helping clean up. I ordered my usual. I was shocked the prices had really went up, it cost $32.00. But anyway, the Manager was very nice and he was helping everyone and he washed his hands when he did, which i liked. He was very friendly along with the cook. The food was fresh and looked really good. I was very pleased when i got home, the food was still piping hot and it was really good. I am glad that it is under new mgmt. because Captain D's is back to the way it use to be. Thank you Mr. Brown- Manager. and i don't know his name but the cook with the dreads/braids, you did an awesome job and had the best smile!!! I only left off 1 star because of the price went up and the fact you can not use the Captain D's coupons that Captain D's Corporation Office sends me. But overall the food was great and the store...

The food is fair, but I’m telling you this as a former employee from many moons ago, do not ask for their tartar sauce unless it’s prepackaged and sealed in a pack, don’t ask for tartar sauce.

I was a prep worker for the food. On my first day, one of my coworkers showed me how they made their tartar sauce from scratch. We had a big plastic bin that we would mix the ingredients in, which probably only got cleaned once every two weeks. The lady who showed me was an older woman who was in the midst of going through menopause, so she would have heat spells and sweat profusely while working. She gathered the ingredients for the tartar sauce, put it in the big plastic bin, and began to mix the ingredients together with her hands, and she would go elbow deep, I mean that literally. She never washed her hands prior to making the tartar sauce, and she would always have her nails, manicured and painted. So in addition to her not having washed her hands, but you also have chemicals being mixed in with the ingredients. And when she would finish, she would take her hand and scrape the residue of the ingredients from her elbows all the way off to the tip of her fingers SPLAT into the tartar sauce and that is how she showed me how to make tartar sauce back there.

I swear to God. I have so many kitchen stories about things that happened in that kitchen. Another one we had this crazy guy who, for whatever reason showed up to work, went through it, took off his clothes and jumped in the sink and started bathing.
