So I order the oxtail cheese steak with Mac and cheese. My wife ordered jerk chicken also with Mac and cheese.
So I know you are wondering how can a place with 5 star food get a 3/5 stars? I will tell you how.
1st off location this place is tight like tight, tight. There are about 5 or more restaurants operating out of this little whole In the wall. And it gets busy, while trying to park a guy literally cut me off and moved into my parking spot. I had thoughts of pulling my knife out my pocket and slashing his tires.. but I took the high road even I didn't want to. There are 4 tables and totally not enough space for the operation happening here.
2nd .. the wait... OMG I don't know if this was me but I ended up waiting an hour from the time I ordered my food. The order initially said 30 minute wait .. but the Mac and cheese apparently ran out on my order. Causing me to wait an extra 30 or so minutes. I was given option to substitute but I ordered Mac and cheese I figured that's what I should gave gotten. So time is a factor in this review..
3rd. Service the service wasn't bad, the guy at front tried to assure me that my food was coming and kept me updated on the status. And wasn't overall rude about it. I do feel like he gave female that walked a lil to much attention. But that didn't bother me I was here for the food.
4th the price the price of the food is up there and don't get me wrong the food taste delicious. But the experience doesn't match the price . I paid 50 dollars with out tip and waited an hour and overall was quite annoyed by the whole thing.
Overall the food is good mind you this was my experience. I would order online next time I'm in town and wait 20 minutes before running in to grab my food . This place really could use a proper restaurant with seating and lighting and atmosphere. If this were to happen you'd get my 5 stars. Because the food at this...
Read moreFirst of all, I think that it is great that the owner really takes time to read and respond to the reviews. It shows his concern for using the feedback to make corrections. I wanted to support this establishment but I was dissappointed in my first and only visit. After seeing the positive reviews and the food presentation on line, without even visiting first, I sang praises for that oxtail cheese steak and recommended it to my friends.
I will never again recommend the whole ghost kitchen concept. It doesn't lend itself to answering any questions that you have and when I tried to ask someone who quickly came out and went back in the door they said that they were from one of the other restaurants and kept it moving. It is crowded and if you are not exactly sure what you want, or know the process, it is very intimidating. Come in, don't ask questions (no one to answer), figure it out, wait, wait, don't bother those who come out to pass out the food is how it feels. A guy ahead of me asked about a drink that he ordered and without really explaining that she would be back at some point the lady disappeared behind "the door" and later came back with the drink after the customer decided not to wait any longer, he left without it. I am old school and I think that customer service will never be what it once was.
I feel that because of all of the great reviews for the food that I must have caught the cook on a bad day because my oxtail cheese steak's flavor was terrible. The presentation again was great though. It looked like it would be worth it (my wife and I drove from Rock Hill just to eat there) but I was very dissappointed. I gave it 2 stars because, it could have been a bad day based on others reviews and I wanted to give credit to the owner for his seemingly genuine concern for getting it right. Unfortunately the first impression is key and mine...
Read moreDecided to circle back to City Kitchen after seeing this restaurant when grabbing food from another restaurant. I love Jamaican food so I was excited to try a new place in Charlotte.
Here’s what we ordered: Oxtails Cheesesteak Oxtails, rice and peas, cabbage, and plantains Curry Chicken & Mac and Cheese egg roll
Let me start with the egg roll 🤤. I wanted to try it and honestly had no idea what to expect BUT baybeeee! It was delicious!! Such a crazy combination but it worked! 9/10!
The oxtails with rice and peas let me down. The oxtails were tough and overcooked. I ordered pretty early in the day when they opened and I feel like it was leftovers from the previous day. And the they skimped bad on the gravy over the oxtails and rice. The rice and peas were seasoned really well and was actually my fave on the plate. The cabbage and plantains were good too. Unfortunately I couldn’t get over the oxtails and lack of gravy. Also, there was way too much fat left on some pieces. 5.5/10
The oxtail cheesesteak. It was good. I feel like social media hyped it up. But, like with the oxtails, maybe it was leftover pieces from the night before 🤷🏾♀️. Idk, either way, it let me down. My expectations were high for this and the reviews were amazing for it, but I didn’t have the same feeling. 6/10
It may take me a while to go back because this wasn’t up to par with what I was expecting. Seasoning and flavor on point, but...
