JP Lao isn’t a fancy spot, but the food is so comforting and delicious that the ambiance will be the last thing on your mind.

I first tried JP years ago when they were still a food truck, and their papaya salad and Lao sausage quickly became my go-to order. Last year, my partner and I moved back to the area, and you can imagine my excitement when I discovered they had opened a brick-and-mortar location.

Since then, I’ve tried almost everything on their menu, and it’s all been packed with flavor. I’m especially a fan of their Tum (salad) options, while my partner swears by the brisket with sticky rice. It’s also fun to browse the display cases and fridge, you never know what you’ll come across.

My new favorite, though, is their khao peik. It isn’t listed on the main menu, but if you spot it handwritten on a piece of paper (or see their pho available), don’t pass it up. Wow! Stopped on a road trip because we were tired of fast food and it was right next to I-85.

Amazingly good food, great service, even offered us some freebies from their take away case since we were there at closing. We had the Lao mien fried noodles with sweet sausage, kra pao rice plate with chicken, and spicy chicken pad Thai. Everything was delicious and comes mild unless you specifically ask for spice.

Lao food was a first for us but we eat a lot of Asian and this hit the spot as a sweeter and less fish-sauce forward Thai-adjacent flavor profile.

It was fairly warm in the dining area as their AC wasn't quiet strong enough for the heatwave. The dining area and restrooms were clean and well maintained, though there was no changing table for our littlest one.

We came 2 days in a row. This place is a MUST try. I have never had Laos food before now and it is so good. The restaurant is clean and smells good as soon as you walk in. I like that they have grab and go options, although I did not try it. I read a comment about customer service, and well even though they are younger and may not want to be there they’re very helpful and patient. I asked a million questions before during and after ordering, NO complaints. Thai tea is my new favorite drink!. We’ve tried beef brisket with sticky rice, pork belly rice plate, beef jerky with sticky rice, vegetable egg rolls and the chicken wings. No disappointment what so ever.
