Laurel Market, you are a local hidden gem in Charlotte. The quality and freshness of food here it’s consistan without a doubt. It’s own by a family from Central America, pretty much a family run market. It reminds me of the deli in NYC but made with love. How to maneuver if you are a first timer: when you walk in to the market to your right hand the line forms to place your order.m, be ready, the breakfast menu is to your left. The fresh local pastries and muffins will be along side the window. After you place your food order, you will see a variety of fresh brew coffee, milk, creams, sugars, honey, cinnamon, nutmeg. Pick your coffee size small or large, my go-to coffee it’s the Guatemalan cinnamon decaf, very smooth and delicious. Space might be a little snug if there a lot of people (usually Saturday and Sunday morning), it’s ok, it moves fast and it’s worth the wait. By the time you are done getting your coffee and perhaps a refill if you drink it as fast as I do. The ladies will call you, the price will be written in the butcher. Walk around the counter and the gentleman will be ring you up, pack your food and add napkins. Now to the food, I usually BYO wrap but honestly everything here it’s delicious and fresh. The portions are generous. When I add avocado ($1 extra) I can taste and feel the slices of avocado. It’s worth paying the extra dollar for...
Read moreBeen going to this place regularly for a year. They make great sandwiches and I always like supporting the local shop. It's a quaint store with good selection and good coffee.
Two stars off for the service experiences I've had several times recently. I generally call in a sandwich order ahead of time so I don't have to wait.
A few recent gripes that have soured my experience... tough to place an order - despite speaking slowly and carefully, they inevitably catch about 1/8 of my extremely simple sandwich order. Requires repeating at least once every time. Not a big deal except...
a few times now I've shown up and no one had any record of my phone order from 30-45 minutes ago. They're always nice and offer to make the sandwich on the spot, but I'm usually going into work and don't have time to wait
price - I order the same two or three sandwiches every time I go. They charge me a different price, higher or lower, almost every time. It just seems random
I'll continue to go here, it's got charm and good food, but the inefficiency makes it too frustrating to use on a regular basis, so I'm looking for a few...
Read moreMy home was destroyed by hurricane Helene and while I’ve been displaced, people around me were kind enough to give me a Visa gift card and cash so I can grab food while I completely uproot my life and move. I came to Laurel Market to get food after salvaging things out of a construction zone all day, and when I went to pay, the man at the counter said the swipe for the Visa gift card wouldn’t work. Then when I got cash, he said he wouldn’t take $100 bill because it might be counterfeit (I had just seen someone pay with a $100 bill 2 days before). She was dressed nicer than me so maybe that’s why her $100 was accepted. I’d be dressed better if I didn’t just have my home crushed. Anyway, the line starts to build up behind me after he’s told me the Visa gift card won’t swipe and he won’t take the $100. So then he says, fine, and voila! The swipe works for the Visa gift card. I don’t know what it is about this guy but it really seems like he doesn’t want me to eat. I don’t know why he lied about the swipe and why he wouldn’t let me pay and just get food. Amidst the devastation of the past few weeks, this was the...
