I tried this spot again just to see if my first experience was just a fluke. 12/09/21 I walked in and there were two guys (skinny older guy and a big guy with lots of tatoos) behind the left counter who never greeted me. Just looked at me like I was in the wrong place. I finally stood at the register counter for awhile (mind you the two male employees were still standing there) until a polite young lady came from the back and seated me. After about two minutes, a white man walked in and the tattooed guy (who I learned was the manager) finally spoke. He asked this customer if he was there for a takeout order or dine-in. Several other white patrons entered and they got similar greetings. I wondered what was different? Hint: I'm black. I asked the waitress for the owners number and called to just share my experience. Turns out the number on the owner's card is the restaurant number and the manager (tattooed guy) answered. I asked to speak to the owner and he said he wasn't available. I asked for a number to which he could be reached and he said he's the manager and I could speak to him. Said all that to say...first visit...
Read moreLuisa's has consistently been the very best pizza place in Charlotte for many years. I'm pretty sure I remember going here back in the late 1980's when Luisa still owned the restaurant. After owning it for a very long time, she sold to the current owner Jeff. Jeff was a long-time employee, so you can't write a story any better than that for a great local business. Right now, you can't get any better pizza for pickup during quarantine. I'd highly recommend the Fiorentina (spinach, garlic cheese) or the Four Cheese. Go ahead and get a LARGE, because you will want it for another meal! When they get the dining room opened back up this is a great place to have a beer (fantastic tap selection) with some pizza and salad. Also, they should eventually get the lunch buffet back up and running. That is a spectacular deal. Support Jeff, and support Luisa's local...
Read moreLouisa's has some of the best pizza in Charlotte.. It is a family owned establishment that serves traditional brick oven pizza that is a hybrid of traditional Italian pizzas, and the recipe is from a woman, Louisa, from Italy that opened the restaurant over 20+ years ago. They offer a buffet during the week that is a great value for $ 10, including a beverage. If you don't see a pizza that you would like, they will make it fresh, and a pie can be cooked in a matter of minutes, making it convenient for businessmen and people in the time crunch. The pizzas are above average on the price, but the ingredients are top quality and well worth the extra price. They also feature other classic Italian dishes, have several local beers on tap, and a good wine list. If you love pizza, this is one restaurant you have to try and tell them...
