My daughter and I had dinner today at the Carolina Mall location in Concord, N.C. The service was horrible. I stood at the register waiting for someone to take my order for about 7 minutes, while a female employee continued to look at me waiting, while she was sitting down talking to another female employee. Once I ordered, it took another 16 minutes to receive my order. I ordered the meatloaf, collard greens, and macaroni & cheese. My order was visible on the steamtable. It simply needed to be scooped into a to-go container. There was one male employee doing all of the work including taking the orders and filling the orders. He also appeared to be high as hell! The value for the cost was good...but the wait times were ridiculous. There were two additional customers before me complaining about the wait times. They were not busy while I was there, just steady. I was there 01 December 2024 at 3:47pm., order # 31. By-the-way the telephone number listed on their website (704) 595-3045 does not exist, and no other number is listed to speak with the...
Read moreThis week, I visited this establishment for the first time. Although the restaurant is not close to my residence, I decided to venture out to try it based upon the great Google reviews. In my opinion, it is very difficult to find GOOD soul food in Charlotte and unfortunately I have been underwhelmed by many of the places that I have patronized in the area. That being said, I will start with the positives about the Soul Kitchen. The cornbread was very good and was the best menu item out of all the others that we ordered. The meats (flounder and pork chops) were seasoned well, however the pork chop was a bit overcooked. As for the negatives, most of the vegetables were not appealing. The collards and cabbage lacked seasoning and the blacked eyed peas were seasoned like chili beans. Although the mac n cheese wasn't bad, overall it lacked moisture. The taste of the food was at best average and I would not likely dine here again because the food really does not offer that authentic soul food flavor to which I...

The lights weren't near off in the seating area. I didn't mind. I from this type of atmosphere. The food looked great! I started to place another order. Service was fair and prompt. Nothing to complain about...nothing to celebrate neither. Although the place was not dirty, it also did not give off cleanliness as well. The prices were pretty reasonable. In that $10-20 range.
Ok....just listen. I've said this in many of my review but I'll say it again. I feel uneasy about culture food being made by folks NOT of the culture in "authentic" restaurants. Yo this is a SOUL FOOD restaurant that is made my Latinos. To me, it doesn't sit well. I want Latinos making my authentic Mexican food. My Greek folks making my Greek food. Etc.
All-in-all, I would recommend visiting this location for some soul food. I just don't know if I would have make...
