My husband and I come here often. The service is usually fast, and the food is good. However, I’ve noticed that the cashier never gives us an itemized receipt unless we specifically ask for it. Every time we visit, our total always ends up being over $60, including the tip.
Most recently, we were one of the last tables before closing, along with another couple. I finally got curious and asked for an itemized receipt—and that’s when the cashier told us a tip had already been included. Mind you, my husband always leaves a tip, and we’ve never been informed that a gratuity was already added.
Here’s the issue: the receipt doesn’t even show it as a gratuity. Instead, he increased the price of certain items—like egg rolls and summer rolls. They’re normally $6.50, but he charged $9.50 per plate. So even if you ask for a receipt, it just looks like a regular food charge, not a tip. That makes it even more misleading.
It’s strange because we always order the same plates, and the total is always about the same. This leads me to believe that the tip has been added without our knowledge multiple times. We don’t mind tipping—especially for good service—but it’s about the principle. Customers should be informed if a tip is being automatically added. Otherwise, it feels dishonest, and in some cases, like double-tipping.
When I questioned it, the cashier said it was because we were the last table. Since when? This has clearly been happening more than just this once.
It’s disappointing to feel like regular customers are being taken advantage of....
Read moreTried this place for the first time today. I can say that it is one of the top Vietnamese restaurants in the Charlotte. The menu is visual with photos of most dishes which is a plus in my book. I’m rarely in a pho mood so I usually order rice and noodle dishes and that was the case today. I got the #32 pork and fried roll vermicelli bowl. It came with a bowl of fish sauce and they supply sriracha and hoisin sauce at each table. The dish was delicious in every way possible: grilled pork was plentiful and flavorful, noodles were cooked well and went perfect with the fish sauce, and plenty of vegetables and herbs! Word to the wise... they have the plastic chopsticks that come packed in paper wrappers at tables, so if you lack chopstick skills like me, use the soup spoon. Service was nice and very fast; I was approached twice about what to order before I was ready and that never happens. The vibe was no doubt Vietnamese and they play cheesy Asian karaoke versions of pop songs on continuous play. When you’re finished eating, go up to the register and tell them your table number (found under the glass at the head of your table). That’s different from most restaurants and I wish I would have known that instead of waiting around like an idiot for my check LOL. Adam from Appetite +...
Read moreI wasn't feeling good when I landed in Charlotte, and, despite my best efforts, I left work early on a mission to get some nourishment and get some rest. Enter Pho Hoa. Their high ratings on Google are more than deserved. When you walk in, it's an unpretentious spot in a strip center. I was warmly greeted and shown to my table. I ordered quickly - and received my bowl of goodness in a few minutes. The pho was delicious. The broth was hot and flavorful; the meat was fresh, and the accouterments were just the element of freshness the soup needed. I sopped up the whole bowl rather quickly. During my slurp fest, my server was attentive without being overbearing. I headed to the counter to pay, and that is when I learned that my server was actually the owner's son who at the last minute was taking over for his mom while she took a trip to Atlanta. He gave me a brief history of the place, saying they tried expanding, but have since decided to focus on being smaller and executing well. We compared notes with some of the pho I've had in Houston, and I was on my way - nourished and pleased. I will definitely be back soon. It was worth the 10-minute Lyft ride from downtown even though I wasn't...
