Well I ordered a full sheet cake and a half sheet cake for my sons baptism in 3 flavor lemon pound cake with diplomat filling, red velvet with cream cheese filling and German chocolate and all had the butter cream cheese frosting and they all were amazing. The decorations were mediocre, the grocery store would have been more interesting and I was surprised they charged $30 extra and that was on one cake. I guessed I assume buy a cake and it has to be decorated and being from the bakery your gonna spend hundreds of dollars. So I finally decide on how my cake to look and they make comments like "that's gonna be expensive because it's fondant and its a lot more work" so then you don't want to spend twice the amount of the cake on the decore so your forced to select another cake. This time my sons 1st birthday was approaching and I wanted a cake for his birthday and since we were pleased with the the lemon pound cake and red velvet so I go with those two for my son 1st birthday. That was the flavored that had me return to the bakery and to my surprise this time the red velvet was good but the lemon pouwnd cake was too white to be lemon and not a hint of lemon qqThe funny part my sister asked me what flavored did you ordered as they were cutting the cake and I replied you have to wait and see! Not realizing I too would be surpriSed. So I call the next business day and I spoke with Holly one of the managers, and she said she spoke to the person who made the cake and said it was lemon pound cake just like on the order form. You see I had the red velvet at the park and it wasn't until everyone had a piece I realized our order was wrong and we had left over, I offere to show it to her, didn't seemed to care and said our lemon cake doesn't have a yellow color and your really not gonna taste the lemon, than why call it lemon cake??????? That's one of the reason why I returned not to mentioned they wrote Happy 2nd Birthday Instead of 1st, that wasn't on the order sheet. If I had not told the person picking up the cake to text me a picture I would have been embarrassed. No I will not return to the bakery because of their inconsistency, lack of responsibility, and overall poor customer service, and all this were mainly from the women who took my order, person who made the...
Read moreWhile the products themselves are great, the lack of customer service and personalization is bothersome. In order to pre-order a cake, it has to be days in advance (which is understandable), BUT that is subject to availability. I have been here before, and know that once something is “sold out for the day,” you’re out of luck (so you really have to get there in the AM). I took some time out of my work day to go in (literally at 10:30 AM) found the cake I wanted (which was great), BUT I asked if there was anyway extra frosting could be added (honestly I didn’t care how it looked, we just like frosting). I was told “no sorry we can’t do that.” I used to work in a bakery, you CAN do that you are just CHOOSING not to do that. I said I wasn’t expecting extra frosting without paying extra, and I would (of course) be willing to pay extra. Was told “let me ask,” literally 5 seconds later, “no, we can’t do that” (again, you CAN, you’re CHOOSING not to). Okay fine, so I ask, can I buy a container of frosting separately? The answer? You guessed it, “no we can’t do that” (do I really need to say my thought process again??). I then ask WHY (not to be rude, but I truly don’t understand, because again, I worked in a bakery in the past), and I got no response (which I understand, the people helping up front don’t make the rules- their hands are tied). So anyway, I give up, understanding that part of this is my lacking of preordering (although in years past, when I have preordered, extra frosting didn’t seem to be possible). Anyway, I buy my items (2 cakes and a box of cookies), I ask for a bag (it was a lot to carry!), the only bags available? Grocery store bags (no where near big enough to fit their cakes (even the smaller size). So of course, not willing to make 2 trips, I balance it all and carry it out (no fatalities). Overall, again the product is great, but as much as they try to pride themselves on being a local bakery, they really don’t cater to much outside of their “shop styles” and practices, which doesn’t allow for the uniqueness and personalization often desired in these situations. I am not at all disappointed in the actual product, but I am disappointed in the lack of willingness to customize and...
Read moreI chose this bakery based on rave reviews and recommendations on Next Door. I also liked how quickly and nice Katie was via email correspondence. They definitely have an edge on other bakeries when it comes to response time. However, communicating a cake idea was sorely lacking when I was quoted $79 for a flat round cake that looked like a Nuka Cola bottle cap versus a $109 quote for a 3D Nuka Cola cake where I was told the base or bottom would look like the bottle, I chose the $109 design because I thought it surely was more impressive given the price difference and description. Man, was I wrong! When I came in to pick up my already paid for cake, I was disappointed. I had been charged $117 (tax) for a 3 layer 8 inch round cake with a fondant top that looked like the bottle cap. No shape. Nothing special. Basically a taller versus of the $79 quoted design. I have never been more disappointed in a cake before. I've had way more elaborate cakes made that not only looked better but also tasted a whole lot better for half the price #suarezbakery charges. As I stood there waiting for the staff to decide (in the back kitchen) what to do, I began to cry. I tried so hard to make my husband's birthday special and Suarez had ruined it for me. Being a fair person, I waited to try the cake first before posting anything. Again, I was disappointed. I chose the diabetic vanilla with chocolate diplomat filling and buttercream icing. None of it was special. The cake was dense and a bit dry with very little flavor. The filling was good for filling but a very bland cream. The buttercream didn't taste like buttercream to me. Again pretty bland and was thinly spread on the sides. There was an inch thick of some sort of dense mixture on the top under the fondant . It was like crisco mixed with some sugar. Not very tasty. My 7yo son didn't even eat 5 bites of his slice. So what did I get from this massive disappointing experience? I was given 50% of the design fee back. A whopping $35. I basically paid $80 for a bland dense kinda dry cake. I could've made one better myself. Save yourself some money and frustration. Don't use Suarez Bakery for...
