The Whistlepig BBQ — Restaurant in Charlotte

Driving up to this place, I noticed immediately almost every possible indication that I was about to have some seriously good BBQ: the place is a tiny shack (decorated with paintings of pigs who are, alas, not themselves eating pork sandwiches) with picnic tables outside and a chain link fence. Navigating around the massive pickup trucks to park, I noticed that the dish pit (and in fact, everything but the kitchen) is outdoors under overhangs. While waiting in line at the window (next to the fridge full of Fargo) to order what was entirely too much food for entirely too reasonable a price, I was being blasted in the face by smoke and ash from the running smoker. The local woman in front of me in line detected I wasn't from around there and immediately began raving about the food and gave her sauce recommendations (they make all their own). Brisket was killer, particularly liked the mango sauce. Coleslaw was a little bland. Will absolutely go again if I'm ever in the area. This...

We went with the knowledge that some of the menu might be unavailable due to the fact that we went around 5:30 on a Friday but it didn’t appear that anything was sold out! We all were able to get what we wanted AND they specially made meal not on their menu for a family member who has a spice allergy. The best part is, we didn’t even ask them to do that, they just offered to accommodate us. The food comes out in little containers that make you think it won’t be enough, but it definitely is enough and it was amazing! I would highly recommend this place especially if you want to go outside...

Without a doubt the best place to eat in Charlotte! 🙂 Every week they have the BBQ standards that are better than any BBQ in Lansing. What I’ve been enjoying are the rotating specials that change every week. It’s always a fun mystery to see what Jason, Melissa, and the family are going to reveal for Friday and Saturday’s “in addition menu.” You can’t go wrong with this place. When they are at peak busy times it’s worth the wait, you’ll enjoy talking to folks who are there for the same reason you are. So glad they’ve opened...
