Got Dumplings — Restaurant in Charlottesville

I'm in Charlottesville for the weekend, looking for a good Chinese or dumpling spot. Lo and behold, I find Got Dumplings on Yelp. I got delivery and ordered the pork dumplings as well as their cookies and cream (oreo) boba.

Big fan of the dumplings! I can see why many UVA students go here for their dumpling fix. There was an ample amount of filling, which was well seasoned and very tasty as well. The wrapper is thin, which creates a nice opportunity for you to taste the meat. The dough is high quality and there are even little crispy bits, too. I loved the dipping sauce they served this with. It was a bit sweet, but went very well with the dumplings. Reasonable price for the portion (although it's probably not enough for a meal to most).

Their boba was okay, but nothing really special. I wanted to have a bit of creaminess to this drink, but it's wasn't that creamy. It wasn't very flavorful in general. The boba pearls tasted fine, and they do give you a large container (although there is also quite a bit of ice and it's pretty expensive). All in all, I'd probably pass on the boba. Definitely check this place out if you have a dumpling...

TLDR: good for a quick bite to eat/lunch but nothing special (don’t out of your way to eat here)

I’ve eaten her numerous times both at the corner location and their food truck location. The only differences is the corner location has more offerings and the food truck only has pork and chicken dumplings with an array of sides but is usually crowded with UVA students.

Dumplings Pork dumplings: 5/10 Chicken: 6/10 Shrimp dumplings: 7/10 - prefer these dumplings most but they can sometimes be soggy, not sure if it’s because they were previously frozen

Sides Peanut noodles: 2/10 - literally just spaghetti noodles covered in a strong peanut sauce Fried rice: Seaweed Salad: 5/10 - seems just like the package seaweed salad

Used to come to this place quite often, however more recently, I’ve been dining elsewhere for the following reasons: 1. I’ve attempted to come a couple times in the past month and have been locked out and just stared at hours before they were set to close. I’d understand if it were just once, but multiple times...? 2. The fried rice is just... not good, there’s no way around that, the only way to make it decent is to pour the sauce meant for your dumplings all over it. I’d recommend a different side, but the cold noodles aren’t appealing and getting double edamame is just... a lot. 3. The prices seem reasonable, until after you’re done with your food you realize it wasn’t quite filling enough and you have to go get something else.
