This food was first introduced to me via food truck at the Fontaine research park while on my lunch break. The amount of care and love that goes into this food by its owners is really something that must be tried by all! The authenticity the flavors and the quality are nothing less than perfect! I became even more excited when they opened up their very own restaurant! I order from Mochiko as often as I can! It's one of my top favorite places in the world! I have eaten at restaurants up and down the east coast and some do not compare to the great quality and taste of Mochiko. My favorite is the chicken katsu! The chicken is moist and deliciously thin but not to thin and that outer panko crust is so crispy! Their spicy garlic green beans are not knock you down spicy they have a little kick but the garlic comes through as well making it a perfect combination! Don't even get me started on their Hawaiian macaroni salad it's so creamy and is dressed perfectly! If you have not tried this place please do! You will not be...
Read moreMy husband and I went in around 730pm(they close at 8pm) and the shop was empty. We looked at the menu and started to order some food. The mochiko chicken was great! The mac salad was also good and the cucumber kimchi was actually really good! You should try it out! They give you two shrimp tempura for the side and each tempura is a whole shrimp. Not too bready and you can taste the meat! The chicken Katsu was average though! I had high hopes for it. They also didn't have enough fried rice for two orders hence one of us got brown rice as a substitute.
My only issue about this place is that the customer service has to be worked on! The employees seemed rather distant and uninterested. Maybe they can put up a sign that they close their kitchen 30 minutes prior or something like that to help them out?
I might go back but this is definitely a take out place not a dine in,...
Read moreThis is one of my favorite restaurants in Charlottesville, ever since they started out at the Farmers' Market. As a Filipino, I have an unhealthy obsession with SPAM and rice, so naturally I am also obsessed with Mochiko's SPAM musubi. I first had SPAM musubi in Hawaii. Mochiko's is a million times more flavorful and I don't have to spend hundreds on airfare to get it. But don't fret if SPAM isn't your thing, Mochiko's other offerings are equally amazing. Mochiko is shockingly consistent across the board--the entrees are good, sides are good, sushi is good, the desserts are DELICIOUS! Mochiko also catered our wedding brunch, and the guests were blown away by every menu item! Riki was super communicative and even offered some unique dishes that aren't on their regular menu. Their catering is also extremely affordable. All in all, Mochiko gets 6...
