I'd been here once before for carryout (with a friend who's been coming here for decades) and enjoyed the food well enough that we came back a second time. Unfortunately, this visit was awful enough that neither of us will be returning. We sat down and our waitress came over pretty quickly to take our order, then went off to grab our drinks. When she returned with them, she essentially dropped them on our table while staring off at something/someone past us, muttering something incoherent as she just kept walking past to whatever had her attention. We were a bit taken aback at this sudden shift in her demeanor, but shrugged it off as no big deal since it was a bit busy and we figured she just needed to rush to help another customer. Thirty minutes later, no part of our food order had come out (though we'd watched several other tables get theirs despite arriving after us), and the waitress (older woman with ash brown medium length hair, never gave her name) hadn't checked in with us at all. I waited for another employee (also older, but blonde) to finish ringing up a carryout order, then asked her If we could get an update on our order. She checked with the cooks (who were just standing around chatting at that point because they'd run out of open tickets) and they hadn't even started it yet. She came back to tell me that it's being started now, but that orders are filled as they're received which was obviously untrue based on what we'd seen. I started to return to my seat, somewhat annoyed but willing to wait because sometimes these things happen, but our waitress chose to make a snarky comment about how "service isn't going to be as fast here as those other places you're used to!" I am generally a patient person with stuff like this, I know tickets get overlooked and mistakes are made, but the lack of accountability to be followed up with that absolute disrespect, essentially being treated with disdain for no discernible reason, that was enough to make us walk out without bothering to wait...
Read moreI’m a senior citizen,I have been eating at Riverside most of my seventy plus years,My wife and I eat at Riverside at least one to two times a week,it’s always been my favorite place to eat over any restaurant in Charlottesville,Here lately I as well as my family have noticed that the burgers are not as juicy as they were in the past, plus they are mashed completely flat and there is at least an inch on hard burger sticking out all the way around it,which we break off and leave on the plate.Last Friday I was in the hospital all day for several test and a bone scan ,I have Cancer and they inject me with radiation and I left to return at two for more test.i made a beeline to Riverside for lunch, biggest mistake I could have done! I set down at the bar,This Guy in need of some personal hygiene, not to mention about forty thousand dollars worth of extensive dental work, took my order, order a drink and a bacon cheese burger with tomato and extra mayo, and please don’t mash it completely flat.well he ignored my request and brought me a burnt burger mashed completely flat,I said this is not what I ordered,He started raising he voice so that everyone in the restaurant could hear his big mouth, said we have been mashing burgers for eighty three years and we’re not going to make a exception for you,at this point I told him that the cook fixed it for me the night before,he said he had no business fixing it for me!at this point I felt things getting out of hand with this jerk so I went up to pay and the owner’s son was the cashier, this guy has never been nice to me or anyone else for that matter,I acts like he is pouting because he has to work, said I only owed them for the drink,no charge for burger because we can’t fix it the way you want it,WE DONT DO THAT!the he slammed the cash register and walked off! These guys don’t care anything about their jobs or their customers,I myself will never return to Riverside, they have no respect for senior citizen’s and they fix you food the way they want,not...
Read moreInitially the atmosphere and the service seemed to be really good, seemed like a very homey place with nice staff. We ordered our food, and when our food was brought to us it was the wrong food and before we could let the person who brought our food over know, she was outside, so we waited until we could find our server or she came back. We found the food runner and she had our correct order but was trying to give it to the table next to us. That’s when I let her know that I think that was our order, we had not touched the order initially brought over to us, but she blew up and began to start yelling that we “took” food that was not ours and quite literally threw a tantrum. The cook behind the counter then said “someone’s gonna get a black eye”. Then the food runner and another server came up and that server was very patient and allowed us to explain that we were given the wrong food and we did not touch it and we were simply trying to find someone to let know. Then we were given our correct order. However, we all had lost our appetites and found it difficult finishing our food as we were all extremely uncomfortable. We let the server working the cash register know about the issue and rather than apologizing and acknowledging our concern, she brushed it off and told us that we should’ve just let our server know. The way we were treated was absolutely appalling, that was my first and now last time dining at...
