I stopped by this brewery during the Ale Trail and fell in love! I've been to IX Park so many times but have yet to visit Three Notched! They were pretty busy as I would imagine a Saturday may typically be there. In addition to the "normal" crowd the Ale Trail added about 75 extra people to the mix. I believe that they were well prepared and staffed adequately enough to continue to serve everyone in a timely manner.
Our server took care of us at a separate table as we had a somewhat large order of food compared to others who were snacking and drinking. Waters were immediately brought to the table, I ordered a virgin bloody Mary and my husband tried one of the IPAs.
For starters, we ordered to onion dip which I have always personally loved so it was a hit for me. The chips that came with it tasted like they were made in house and were topped with green onions.
I didn't mention we were here around brunch so we did order off the brunch menu. My friend chose the "Going Full Southern" platter which came with eggs, bacon, potatoes, and biscuits with gravy. His food was all really delicious but my favorite part was the biscuits and gravy. The gravy was a cream gravy but browner than the typical white gravy. Really really good!
I opted for the hot chicken sandwich which came with a choice of either fries, breakfast potatoes, or salad. I ordered fries and then was asked further if I wanted to upgrade them. She suggested garlic Parmesan so I went with that and they were delicious! I asked for a side of ranch like a do everywhere and if you're a ranch loved, you'll like theirs as well. The fries are great in it as well as the sandwich. I will say the sandwich is delicious and the chicken is super plump and juicy. If you don't like anything spicy stay away from this option. The dry rub of spices used is extremely spicy and almost if not as hot as eating a spicy Thai food. I really loved it so if you like spicy, order this!
I HAD to have desert because I could smell chocolate coming from the kitchen. They have the most unique and delicious sounding desserts. We went with the chocolate bread pudding. It was served warm and with a side of chocolate ice cream drizzled with caramel and chocolate. It was heavenly. It literally tasted like pudding that was cooked a little longer with flour added to it. Perhaps that is what it is, AND IT'S DELICIOUS!
I can't wait to return to try out dinner and lunch here! My friend loved the beers and the atmosphere...
Read moreThree Notch’d Craft Kitchen and Brewery is a brew pub and not a fine dining venue. The ambiance is casual and noisy; the dress is simple. I’ve visited here twice in Charlottesville, in large groups of grandparents, parents, and middle to high-school-aged children. Service is slow, and it is not the place for a quick bite. However, while servers may appear rushed, they have been, for our visits, thoughtful and efficient. Specialties are pub food, burgers and fries, spring and egg rolls, tacos, a wide assortment of non-traditional brews made on the premises, and exciting and seasonal mixed drinks. Also on offer are nonalcoholic beverages and Three Notch’d NA beer. The facility is clean and well-lighted. The restrooms are easy to find and accessible with either cane or wheelchair. While clean and well stocked with paper products, lighting is not good, making restrooms appear cavelike. Locating Three Notch’d is not easy. It fronts the busy 2nd Street and Monticello Avenue intersection set back in the converted iX industrial building with which it shares space with other interesting local venues. Don’t let the collection of attention-seeking signs for these businesses divert you. Pedestrian and driving access entrances to Three Notch’D are sign-posted just past the signs on 2nd St. Drivers should follow 2nd, take a left at the edge of Arts Park, and follow the Park’s fence to take another left to the Brewery’s large parking lot. There is no special Handicap Accessible parking indicated. The walk from the parking lot to the Brewery entrance is lengthy for patrons with mobility problems. My cane and I were able to travel up the path from the parking area and through the main entrance steps. Patrons with mobility devices need to walk further and enter through the outdoor seating area. I strongly advise those with mobility problems to make a practice run of the facilities with a mobile companion before planning time out at...
Read morePolite enough bartender. She never followed up with me once about how things were , if I wanted to order more etc. They were not busy so that wasn't it... she also disappeared for a little while. A new bartender who had clocked in checked on me at least 3 times in 20 minutes and a couple of other times before I left. Overall he was also just more polite and social, good energy... I had finished drinking my sangria while I was eating my dessert. I was planning on eating my fruit that is part of the whole yummy fruit sangria experience and without a word to me she just takes my glass that's still in front of me and dumps it out... it annoyed me that she lacks customer service skills as the face of the business. So I debated if I should say anything... I inquired if she took my glass and threw my fruit away. She said yes , didn't even apologize for taking something in Front of me without asking etc.. in contrast, male bartender sees my dessert actually pushed a little away from me and asks if I'm done... she's had her back turnd to me almost the whole time. The food was ok, ordered steak and cheese not the best item I've had here but not bad...it should be cut for presentation though... the rhubarb dessert pretty good and nice presentation. Almost impossible to transport. So dont order it and think you can take it to go, save your appetite if you want dessert. Absolutely appreciate a salad can be subbed...
