First, we sat in the middle between the bar and the booths. Interesting concept, except if your elbow is even close to sticking out, you're going to get bumped by someone. Customer, server, doesn't matter. I thought I was going to spill my drink or dump my food more than once . The beer we ordered was totally flat. Had to wait about 10 minutes for our server to come by and look at me so I could get his attention to order another to replace it. I get it, place was busy. But then, they didn't check the taps or put a cup or something over the tap stating it was bad. I could see they just kept serving it. The people's burger cooked more medium-well and I asked for "pink", and it was under seasoned. We waited for so long, I wasn't going to send it back and wait even longer. The salmon BLT was a hunk of salmon, making it impossible to eat between two slices of bread. Salmon does flake, they should flake it instead of squashing it between two pieces of bread. We both just ended up using forks to eat our burger and sandwich. The fries were an immense disappointment. Worst fries I think I've ever had. They were mostly burnt, bitter, soggy, and I could tell the oil was just old or used too much that day and not changed out or allowed to come to temp again. We could only get a third of the way through our fries, and I usually almost always finish my fries. When we decided to leave, the beers were not taken off the bill, and our cheaper beers were not put on the bill. So they had to alter each dish to reflect the lesser priced beers. Be careful, when you look at the 20%, 25%, and 30% tip calculations they offer on the receipt, the suggested tips reflect the total including tax. No one does that. I've never been to a restaurant that does that. So do your own calculations, don't look at their suggestions. Overall, the hype did not live up to the...
Read moreAs a guy who is in his early 20s I assume their food is pretty good. However the way service in the restaurant was set up, I couldn't try the food. The way the Host set up our table was the reason we left.
I came with a party of 7 during lunch time. We kinda expected to wait until a table was ready for us. Instead we were taken to this high and thin table with chairs that felt like one of those water booths that flip down if the ball hits the target. We were told when a regular table is available we could move. Alright cool.
Cool waitress comes by gets our orders super efficient and it's unfortunate that I don't know her name. She is dirty blonde and is about 5"5'. She did a great job.
The problem was tall bearded guy, the Host. While we were waiting for our food we noticed that one of the tables were free and were waiting to be seated there. 10 minutes roll by and nothing. We talked to bearded guy and asked can we move to that table. He said sorry we can't move tables once orders are put in. I'm sorry what? You told us that we would be moved to another table once it's available why didn't you have us wait? He said sorry that is just the rules. He also said you could've a gone to the outside tables. Yeah thanks for letting us know when it didn't mattered.
We left on the spot. The total inflexibility was totally unexceptable from bearded guy. If he'd let us moved then they would've have a 200+ bill plus a substantial tip. Bearded guy if you are reading this just know that if you treat us well we would've treated you well. I feel bad we left because I wanted to give a nice tip for our waitress.
So yeah basically if you see bearded guy hosting, turn around and go to another restaurant. Try Nook. Has an environment of 60s era restaurants with great food and the staff were awesome. 1000 times better then...
Read moreI had looked up places to eat in Charlottesville and this was at the top of my list to try out. I love that the ingredients are super fresh, they hand make the patties in the restaurant, they get the beef about 5 miles away, the fries are hand cut, etc. etc. I got the beef with american cheese, bacon, ketchup and mayo. I got it cooked medium. It was so juicy. I think the beef in the burger was as juicy and delicious as I had in Seattle but the cheese and bacon in Seattle was better. I would go back to this place for sure. I thought about it the whole time I was in Charlottesville that I could be happy to go back to this place again the next day. That is how good it was. I walked in and saw all the sports on the TVs at the bar and loved it. I love watching sports and they had on tennis which places hardly EVER have on. That made me happier so I loved the atmosphere. The prices were average for a nicer burger joint. I don't care about the price as much when the food is awesome and this food was awesome. Be aware that these burgers are really juicy and it will make a mess and the bun will get soggy. I think that is why I didn't care that the bun was a bit dry. 4/5 for my boyfriend. He got the beef burger with bacon and ketchup and the Tillamook cheddar. His cheese was definitely tastier than mine. He said it was great but the bun was a little dry to him so he cannot give it 5 stars. We will be back when we visit this fall. We love finding great places when we travel and all the reviews I saw online before visiting the city lived up to the expectations. Love the freshness of the ingredients. This is really an unrated thing when going to restaurants - the fresher the ingredients the better the food will taste. You pay for what you get!!!!! Go here if you love burgers, don't...
