The Chicken milano panini was (emphasis on 'was') my go-to sandwich but hasn't been the same for many months... This has been my staple for a while but it's overall quality sadly has dipped quite significantly imho. What was a super delish sandwich has become very meh & bland.
My main gripe is that when I started ordering this sandwich the "fire roasted tomato" were smaller grape sized tomatoes that were in fact roasted (or at the very least had spent some time in a hot pan) to get some color and extra flavor, and was appropriately distributed throughout the sandwich to get some in every bite. Today, this has become just raw beefsteak tomatoes cut into several overly large tomato chunks that not only haven't been cooked at all, but result in either a bite that has no tomato or ONLY tomato. In some cases, the tomatoes are instead just thin slices of raw tomato, which are cold & lack flavor. I don't know why this ingredient changed, and every business is entitled to change these if they wish, but don't list menu items with ingredients it doesn't (or doesn't consistently) have. Maybe I'm just getting "lucky" and that fire roasted tomatoes are just consistently out of stock, but I would really like to see this ingredient return to this sandwich... but if this isn't going to happen then the sandwich description should change to reflect this.
Additionally, I enjoy my paninis more like a hot sandwich ie toasted / melted... however the sandwich is rarely if ever "hot" like I would expect. The bread has the expected panini grill marks, but nor it or the ingredients have any sort of heat even when I do expressly ask for the sandwich to be 'toasted and melted'. This request will sometimes get a slightly melted cheese, but this too rarely makes the sandwich hot like I would like. I often have to toast the sandwich myself.
Since moving to the area, Chatham sandwich shop has been my go-to, but absent changes to this sandwich I think I'm going to have to find a new 'main' sandwich /...
Read moreNever been to Chatham, but I was here to get my car tinted, which was a six-hour job. I spent the day at the Chatham Library studying for an Anatomy & Physiology midterm and then got hungry. Went to the Chatham Sandwich Shop and was immediately greeted at the counter. They asked me what I would like, and I already had my go-to ready, Italian sub w/ everything. I also wanted to try their fried ravioli. I'm a sucker for any pasta dish. I got a whole sub, not realizing how big it actually was. My brain was fried for the day from studying, but the guy at the register, who I think is the owner, asked if I would like half of it wrapped for later, which was perfect. Everything was amazing! Shredded lettuce, thinly sliced cold cuts, onions, tomatoes, and a perfect amount of dressings. I always forget everything doesn't include mayo, so it's an error on my part, but I don't need those calories anyway. As I left, one of the employees thought I had left my sandwich to go, but I already put it in my backpack. So extra points for the attentiveness. I would definitely go back if I ever go to Chatham again and will refer all my friends there. They have a great...
Read moreIf you remember one thing from today it should be this - this sandwich shop will change your life. I have spent 20 years trying to find a place that makes a barely passable Cuban since moving into Union County - three week ago I gave this place a shot. If the Baby Jesus were a sandwich it would be the Cuban from this shop. Thinly sliced pork (not the turkey bullshit most places use). Cubans are made with PORK not TURKEY. This place understands that. But its not just the Cuban, I had a bite of my wife's tuna and then today some turkey- there isn't a bad sandwich. The bread is fantastic, the meat to lettuce ratio to mayo Is perfect. The tomatoes are sliced thin and the pickles are seasoned perfectly.
Also the service is incredible. Grub hub picked up the wrong order, the guy called my wife and couldn't be nicer. Let us keep the wrong sandwiches (free dinner for the kids) and their guy delivered the right order in minutes.
We can never ever let this place go out of business, I would not be able to go on.
I love you Chatham Sandwich Shop. I love...
