My favorite Asian buffet. I had to edit this review because I ate yesterday and just saw something incredibly disappointing at the sushi bar. After making eye contact with these people I absolutely know the behavior was intentional because I have 26 years of restaurant experience myself. They're not fooling anyone with their behavior.

I stood there for a full 5 minutes and there was sushi that was rolled and ready that they were just refusing to put it out. These are items that go very quickly and it was very petty.

They knew what I was waiting on and tried to act like they were ignoring me. Well that didn't work out so well. I just went around and got a few plates of food and then I intentionally cleaned them out for being jerks. I always tip these people and I always tip the hibachi cook as I know it is hard work. Normally I am the easiest guy in the world when it comes to understanding what the employees are dealing with but this was well the only word in the English language that really describes it is spiteful.

I still got what I wanted and didn't have to use my tip dollars because tips are earned. These people did not earn their tips nor do they really have any craft to be proud of. Anybody can make buffet sushi. Not trying to shatter anyone's illusions but it's not nearly as complicated as going to an actual sushi bar.

I am a kind person so I didn't complain but let it be known that you're not fooling anyone. I don't believe the management had anything to do with this behavior. I believe if I would have complained that things would have changed. Quite frankly I just didn't have the time as I was there for a quick lunch with some family friends.

I didn't complain the first time this happened or change my rating. Now that I realize it's an actual practiced behavior, It will not be tolerated next time.

My review reflects who this place is right now and they will most likely improve. My review reflects a regular customer who knows what it's supposed to be when it's right. This was not right and cheated people out of the experience that they pay for.

I'm not amused and next time I will show you exactly how unfunny and spiteful your behavior was today. Better get over it or I'll help you. Bunch of jerks today and the same jerks were there the last time this happened so evidently that might be rewarded...

My husband and I decided to go out to Forbidden City for lunch, and as we approached the various food bars, the food like the lo mein and the honey chicken and especially the garlic chicken were exceptionally hard and OLD. The ice cream is in a freezer, but all of the ice cream was extremely melted; it was like eating whipped cream or soup. Then I decided to try the egg drop soup, and in my egg drop soup even the egg was old! the egg was turning black and even started smelling spoiled. It was utterly gross, and I completely lost my appetite. During this whole time, the manager was in front of our table, standing on the booth, adjusting the air because he had the air on 85 degrees and the weather outside is literally 100! It took him about 5 people to come up to him and tell him the restaurant was too hot, and finally decided to turn the air down. Finally, I went up to the counter to pay for our meal, and the hostess asked us how our meal was, and I told her absolutely horrible; she was silent. I again said, "Yes, it was really bad," and she finally mumbled, "I'm sorry." I had to ask her for a manager because she seemed so afraid to talk to me. She was probably expecting me to say "good" or "fine" or something like that. Finally the manager came up to us, and I asked him how often they changed the food or added to it at least, and all he told me was we came at a bad time. Then I told him about my egg drop soup and how it was turning black, and didn't say anything. He was looking for a way out, and as I was talking, the manager literally WALKED AWAY FROM ME as I was talking!!!!!!!!! Mid sentence!!!!!!!!!! The thing that bothered me the most was that the manager NEVER said sorry or addressed my concerns. He seemed as if he was afraid to talk to me; the manager is definitely afraid of confrontation. This visit was definitely a horrible one to say the least. The most upsetting thing though is the horrible management. The food I could get over if I would have "waited", but I shouldn't have to. I'm not going back. EVERRRRRRR. I will not pay money to a restaurant that doesn't even value their customers or have any customer...

Both my husband & I love Chinese. We hadn't been here so decided to give it a try. We went in a semi busy part of the day over the weekend. Prices were decent, and to my surprise. The place is HUGE! The decor from the time you enter is really nice, very pretty. They have a fish pond as you first walk in. It's a cool feature yet as decorative as they are, the pond seemed neglected as far as decor. They do have a very big selection of foods. The main bar, hibachi bar, and so on. I don't eat seafood yet my husband does and of course he had plenty, stating it was good. He said it lacked flavor in some of what he had. I too, had that issue. I only eat from the main bar and had dessert. The honey chicken & spicey chicken were both very well made. Not over cooked and seasoned very well. The sweet/sour chicken wasn't over cooked yet still had that nice crunch to it. The lo-mein noodles didn't have much flavor at all, the potatoes seemed bland. Their green beans were really very good. I ordered a white Russian & do not suggest anyone else doing so. It had too much ice, more milk & cream than needed and very little or low grade alcohol. All in all, we wouldn't say, we won't go back. But we have both agreed it would only be when we are out that way. Which is very rare. The staff were very nice. Our waitress done an amazing job. The restaurant was clean. Needed more lighting but it's a Chinese restaurant so it's expected to be a bit darker than another place. The cost wasn't bad at all and they do have a nice set up. Some of the customers are like most other places. Rude, obnoxious and seeming they will never be able to go get another plate lol But that isn't the restaurants fault. Just shows the lack of home training & table manners of some that eat there. I'd recommend this place to my friends with the exceptions of my opinion on the flavor of some of the foods. Then again, maybe it was an off day for them. Again,...

Venturing into Chattanooga's Forbidden City Chinese Buffet is less about breaching ancient taboos and more about unlocking a treasure trove of culinary delights that could rival the riches of any emperor's palace. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted not just by the staff, whose friendliness and efficiency are so legendary they must surely practice it in some secret dojo, but also by an ambiance so clean and inviting it makes you wonder if "Forbidden" was just a clever ploy to keep all this goodness a secret. The buffet itself is a gastronomic journey through the best of Chinese cuisine, with a full sushi bar where the sushi rolls are so fresh, you'd swear they were still contemplating their life choices in the ocean moments before. The Mongolian grill sizzles with possibilities, each dish a fiery testament to your own culinary daring. Here, you're not just a guest; you're the maestro of your own meal, orchestrating a symphony of flavors that dance harmoniously on your palate. But what's an empire without its treasures? The full dessert bar at Forbidden City is the jewel in the crown. It's where calories are not so much counted as they are celebrated, with an array of sweets that could easily seduce even the most disciplined of warriors. The humor in the name "Forbidden" becomes apparent as you dive into this buffet extravaganza. It's as if the only thing truly forbidden is leaving hungry or unsatisfied. In a city brimming with dining options, the Forbidden City Chinese Buffet stands out not just as a meal, but as an experience – a place so good, it should probably be kept a secret. But like all great wonders of the world, its splendor is meant to be shared. Just maybe not with your dietitian.

Seriously the WORST Asian buffet I’ve ever been to across all the US states I’ve lived in and traveled through. I guarantee this was not chicken. The dough mix used in all the fried foods was stale and hard as a rock...clearly old meat and old ingredients as well as old frying oil. Probably the only edible thing was the egg drop soup, and the tomato salad (edible but not good). The waitress was very nice so kudos for service. And the decor was beautiful as is the general presentation which is quite honestly what hooked us....clearly you can’t judge a restaurant’s food quality by its interiors! So where in the world did those positive reviews come from? I’m very used to eating out and trying different cuisines, places and have a decent palate. So I might be pickier than your average foodie, but even my “I will eat anything” husband was extremely disappointed and he will never let go of me saying, “but honey, this place has 4.1 stars out of thousands of reviews so it’s got to be at least decent.” Nope. I will have to suffer thru endless “I told you so” forever and a day thanks to Forbidden City Restaurant. Golly even Panda Express is better (gasp!). Sorry folks but good Asian buffets are harder to come by these days...and as I said, I’ve tried hundreds across many of these beautiful United States, so trust me, you will want to go elsewhere! Deserves 0 stars for food - but ok 1 star for the decor.

They have hibachi, sushi, desserts, and fruits. Quite a large variety to choose from but the habichi was meh. Of course it's not as good as Tai Chi ramen but the habichi at forbidden seemed bland even after adding the sauces in. Lots of food to choose from that are decent so don't worry about the hibachi part. I think there's about 8-10 ice cream flavors and plenty of sushi. Lots of space inside. Can have parties of like 30+ if you're wanting to eat out with a big group after graduation or something. Music was the typical music you'd find at any other Asian restaurant and the waiters do a good job of getting plates out of your way. The places you sit seemed colder than the places you would get food from. There was a noticeable difference if that matters.
