My boyfriend and I were excited to try Malone’s today as they recently opened. When we walked in we were greeted very kindly and seated with no wait even though they were very busy. We were immediately served ice water, bread, and butter. The bread and butter were delicious and set the bar very high for the rest of the meal.
Unfortunately the rest of the experience did not live up to those expectations. I asked our waitress if the filet was cooked in the Henry Bain sauce and she assured me that it was served on the side, so I ordered that. My boyfriend ordered the prime Manhattan New York strip and shrimp. For sides we got salad, Mexican street corn, lemon broccoli, and a baked potato. My steak came out smothered in the sauce that she had told me would come on the side and I was not a fan so that was very disappointing. She never offered to take it back or have it remade. I scraped it off the best I could but it was a lot, similar to a gravy. I’d never tried the sauce before and wouldn’t have ordered it if I knew it was served like that. The broccoli was very good, the potato was good, the corn was just okay. My boyfriend’s steak was cooked perfectly and seasoned heavily which he enjoys, but equivalent steaks at other steakhouses in town are half the price or less. He said the Cajun shrimp was surprisingly good.
Each table had both a main server and a server’s assistant to help with refills etc and take some stress off of the server, but we still felt we didn’t get adequate attention or a very positive dining experience. At this price point you expect the server to know the menu exceptionally, to get exactly what you ask for, and for the food to be significantly better than the neighboring steakhouses that offer the same items at 1/3 of the cost. Unfortunately that was not our...
Read moreFor our own experience, we decided to try this restaurant since we were in the Chattanooga area. We started out ordering the calamari and had it fried extra crispy. Doing so and did not make the calamari. Feel as though it was overcooked. The crisp was just right 👍🏾 . Me and my girlfriend then proceeded to order the salmon with steak. My salmon was cooked very well and my girlfriends as well. She did order a steak and asked for medium well but when her steak came out it was very much well done. With no pink on the inside at all. My steak was cooked well and it was seasoned as well. The staff did cook or another and they brought her out her main course and it was free of charge. Her only complaint was that they had a little bit extra pepper on it but overall it was good. My stepdaughter ordered sushi and although she did say she enjoyed it, she did not like the aftertaste that it gave her. She said it kind of made her feel sick but it was more of an aftertaste than her actually being sick. For dessert, I did order the strawberry cheesecake and I will say that to me the cheesecake was so good that I actually ordered another one after I finished the first one. And that says a lot because usually when I go out and dine at places I don't order desserts but I thought I'd give this place a try and it was well worth the penny. All in all I think the food here is decent. Not much to complain about. Other than maybe the steak portions could be a little bit bigger for the price. I understand the economy and prices are up but for the amount of money that you pay for a steak here to be cooked by a chef is understandable but the portions could be bigger. Hope...
Read moreFirst time at Malones, for Valentines, and it wasn't quite up to snuff. We had been to the attached Harry's a few times and quite enjoyed it so we figured we would have a nice dinner to celebrate. The food was pretty good, although I never got one of the appetizers I ordered. I wanted to try the chef's soup but it never showed up.
My partner accidently spilled her cocktail trying to tare the pasta-chips that come with the spinach dip (very tasty, would recommend) and that got promptly cleaned up, but we never got new napkins, despite several people coming by saying they would be right back to help wipe down the table and seat area where the drink spilled. We got charged for both the spilled drink and the replacement which I was kind of taken-aback by. I've never had that happen before.
The entree's were very good. I had the blackened chicken fettucini and my partner got a blue cheese crusted twin-filet which she liked. Highly recommend either dish.
Another glass of wine and a beer later, and we were full but wanted to try a dessert. So a dessert it was, but to-go. The bill was brought (the wrong one, at first) which is when I noticed that I was charged for a sprite. I assume this is a new charge for getting a soda-water from the bar gun. I've never, ever, been charged for a soda water unless it was bottled. Double charge for the spilled cocktail. We were told to have a great night, if there was nothing else, but um, we were still waiting for our dessert to go.
All in all, very lackluster service with a couple surprise charges. I think I'll stick to other places unless we have a gift card. For a 200 dollar meal, we did not leave...
