Today after church we went to lunch at Newks. Having an afternoon appointment somwehere else, made this a good choice for us due to past experiences. Not today! Unfortunately when we walked in the door during the after church rush, we were told there would be a 0-15 minute wait to order due to the computer "rebooting"! We could not understand why they would choose to do this during lunch rush. We asked if they could take the orders by hand and give to the kitchen to start preparing and then enter into the computer when rebooted. We were told they would have to ask the manager. As soon as they asked the manager they were told they could now order. Hmmm. Our order was taken and we went to wait. We didn't get our receipt not realizing how important this would later be. After the normal wait time a 1/4 of our order came out and we told the gentleman we were waiting on other items. He said this is all on the receipt I got, He asked for our copy and we told him we didn't get one. We told him what we ordered and off he went to the kitchen. Somehow, unbeknownst to him, there was another snaful He came back a few minutes later and noticed we had not received the remaining items. He then went to the front to find our receipt. He was so concerned and caring and said I will take care of this. His name was Anthoine and we found out he is the floor manager. What a great guy and such a hard worker. Whi;e waiting along comes two more staff who noticed two of us were eating and the other was missing food. Sydney asked what we were missing and immediately went and made our side salads and brought them out. Then TT comes along and noticed the same thing. She kept apologizing and asked how she could help. She took off and brought other items. Anthoine then came out with the missing sandwicheds and apologized over and over again. He accommodated us and made sure that we were satisfied. Had it not been for these three employees, we probably would have asked for a refund and left not to return. Thankfully, we were satisfied, made our appointment and will return. We love their pizzas and Caesar salad. Thank you Anthoine, TT and Syndney for your great caring...
Read moreMy fiance was hired at this restaurant to be a GM. He had just been offered a (well paying) position as a GM at another restaurant as well, and the man hiring him for Newk's told him to turn it down because he was going to be hired there. He met with the other bosses, filled out paperwork, and was given a salary appropriate for a GM position. They told him that he would be going out of town for training and all kinds of other lies. They delayed the opening date multiple times due to who knows what, probably their disorganization.
Then they suddenly came to him with some bs that he and the other people that were hired to be GM will have to work in the restaurant as a regular employee making $9/hr and that during that time they would all be actually competing for the GM position. So now he's out of a good job he could have had based on the lies that the people who run this business promised him.
This place is a joke. I've never had their food, but I know that if they are this crooked and poorly managed, I will never eat there. I will make sure to make everyone I know aware of how they are as well. Five star reviews when they haven't even opened, based on how other Newk's restaurants are?...
Read moreThe layout of Newk's Eatery lends itself well to the to-go and the dine-in patron. One can enter through a separate door and select from the pre-made sandwiches and salads or go through another area to order for dine-in. Today I had the half shrimp po-boy and the 5 cheese mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese is fantastic. Creamy goodness topped with melted cheddar. A half order with a half sandwich is perfect. The sandwich was on 11 grain bread, which I normally don't care for, but this had a nutty flavor that paired well with the shrimp. The shrimp packed a punch with flavor. It was served with onion, tomato and pickle. I will say that it was a bit dry and perhaps a sauce or mayo would enhance what is a great sandwich. My husband had the chicken tortilla soup, which was make-your-nose-run spicy and filled with chicken and crispy tortilla strips. He paired it with the cheesesteak sandwich. He gave the meat an average rating due to the amount of fat, but said it had good flavor otherwise. I'd like to go back to try the pimento cheese and bacon mac and cheese along with one of their...
