Went to Kura for the first time Friday night with family and we were all disappointed. I feel like some of the issues I am about to list are due to understaffing but other issues are just due to a lack of good leadership/supervision/management. We walked in and there was a tablet to check in- we checked in and sat down at the waiting booths. No one was at the host stand. Then Another family walked in and the hostess comes up and immediately seats them, without acknowledging/greeting us. We spoke up and advised them we checked in and why we weren’t seated and the hostess asks us if we came to the stand!! Disable or move the check im tablet if you dont want it used or be at the hostess stand. The place was filthy- looks like it hasn’t been properly cleaned since opening day. Tables weren’t cleaned thoroughly, food and paper products under the tables, and the Ramen spoons were dirty! A health inspector needs to come check this place. There was like 1 person waiting all the tables and although he was nice, he seemed overwhelmed and forgot to bring us waters that we ordered. He also told us NOT to put certain plates down the chute but then at the end told us to put them down. He made us confused about the process. The kitchen staff were loud, obnoxious, and unprofessional. Some food said grilled or charbroiled, etc. but we watched the kitchen staff torch everything. Nothing was actually cooked or put on a grill. Arriving 1hr before closing isnt ideal because they stop putting food out on the revolving bar so its pretty empty and then you have to end up ordering. Which isnt so bad but you can only order 4 things at a time. Sushi was okay, nothing special. Ramen wasnt good. $7 for 2 pieces of mochi - insane.
Overall- i wouldnt recommend and we...
Read moreSome of the best sushi I've had in NJ. As you can imagine, there is a huge variety of different sushi rolls to choose from, but they also have other Japanese styled hot dishes. Everything is ordered directly from your table kiosk, except for the sushi, which is constantly headed your direction via the conveyor belt that spans the entire restaurant. The staff is highly cordial and instruct you on how everything works. Each sushi plate is $4 and there are a seemingly endless varieties to choose from. I like this kind of sushi dining because you get to have continous variety while not blowing your budget on just one "good sounding roll" from most sushi menus. The rolls (the only thing I tried on my first visit) were absolutely delicious and flavorful and very fresh tasting. And, they use REAL Wasabi! None of that green horseradish that every other sushi restaurants love to use. Overall, it was a fantastic experience. I visited a single diner, and they seated me a "sushi bar" like area for single diners (of which there were several), but it's clear that they also support large dining groups, as well. If your a sushi/Japanese food fan, I can not recommend Kura enough. I will definitely continue to eat here and can't wait to try all of the beautiful varieties of sushi rolls that they...
Read moreConveyor belt sushi and service robots are fun concepts, especially for kids or people who are seeing it for the first time. For me, I’ve seen both. What I really like about Kura is the service, even though it’s self serve almost. The waiter who sat us down was friendly and explained everything to us, from showing us how to open MrFresh, how to put the plates away, and the animations and keychain that we get for how many plates we eat. That was definitely not something I’ve seen before so that was fun. I did end up getting a keychain when we hit 15 plates. However, the food needs improvement. I’ve been to other sushi restaurants and this was a bit disappointing. Right away I could tell the sushi here is poorly made. The rice today was poorly cooked, it kept falling apart. Some sushi also contained too much rice. There was also a piece of sushi where there was some rice in the middle instead of sushi filling so it was poorly made. The nigiri also looked like it was made with a machine instead of handmade. Right away it just didn’t look right. The fish on top looked like it was just dropped onto the rice. The right nigiri would have a nice shape and the fish would wrap the top of the rice. Everything was all pretty good other than the food. Hope...
