Stop. Just stop reading glowing reviews and GO. You will not regret it. Truly, Chef Hiro is an artist. His creations are magnificent in appearance and stunning in flavor. Never have I had such luscious house made sauces at a Japanese restaurant. This man is a culinary star. We began with a seaweed plate which looked like elegantly uncluttered Japanese art. The sauce was so spectacular, my guest ordered another bowl. We couldn’t resist the curious idea of Berry Tuna. So unexpected; so superb. Again, we ordered a second plate and would let neither go until every bit of sauce was consumed. My guests, sushi veterans, claim this Volcano Roll is the absolute best they have ever had. High praise from Foodies. A tuna roll and a gogo mango roll disappeared with speed. Both were excellent. We asked Hana, our charming waitstaff if Hiro had specific recommendations. DEFINITELY ask. At his suggestion we got mackerel nigiri. Oh my gosh. If only we hadn’t gotten the last pieces. Frankly, I can’t believe I’m extolling raw fish on rice, but now I know what it can be from the hand of a master. The flounder nigiri with lemon pink salt and a light touch of wasabi is a revelation. I was going to ask him to withhold the wasabi—I never eat it. That would have been a mistake. My guest rejoiced over the scallop nigiri. The full sweetness of the shellfish blossomed—-no substituting skate or shark here. We ended with a green tea crepe and a mochi plate. Definitely worth it. To end, I cannot believe what a stellar meal we had. Not one item was less than outstanding. We must keep this restaurant in business. Go. Go...

A local gem that’s been around for years for all Sushi Lovers in Chesapeake!

If you're looking for fresh, authentic sushi with a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere, look no further than this local gem in Chesapeake, Virginia. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the heart and soul put into every detail—from the cozy decor to the perfectly plated rolls.

The fish is incredibly fresh (like, melt-in-your-mouth fresh), and the menu has something for everyone, whether you're a sushi purist or a little adventurous. The specialty rolls are creative and delicious, and the classic nigiri is spot on every time. Don’t skip the miso soup or the house-made sauces—they're next level.

What makes this place really special, though, is the people. It's a family-run spot, and you can tell. The care, the pride, the personal touch—it all shows. The staff is kind, attentive, and knowledgeable, and the vibe is warm and genuine.

Support a local business and treat yourself to an unforgettable meal. Your taste buds...

Come here if you want the absolute best sushi in Hampton Roads. Daikichi has incredible, authentic Japanese food for great prices. The owners / chefs are Japanese, as well as the wait staff. They are all very friendly and helpful, which makes your dining experience that much better. Their prices are incredibly reasonable, considering the quality. The food is exceptional, and comparable, if not better, than some expensive restaurants in cities like New York. This is not the place to go if you want some Asian fusion, Americanized rolls for your Instagram feed. There are plenty of other places for that. If you truly want an authentic experience where extra attention is spent towards every minute detail, come to Daikichi. This is the closest you'll get to eating in Toyosu while in Virginia. Highly recommend checking their Facebook page since they post information about lunch specials...

Absolutely incredible. I forgot to take more pictures, but every single plate was GORGEOUS. I went twice in as many days and everything was amazing both times. Prices are absolutely reasonable considering how high quality everything is, and the portions are solid. Ate myself stupid and frankly I don't even know what everything was (that custard dish in the blue crock!!!). Daughter got ramen, and they kindly put all the toppings on the side for her. She ate, and ate, and was full ....and we still took home a sizeable portion. The pork melted and was so good we were swooning. The only minor critique I could give is that the dessert crepe didn't need all the chocolate sauce. We still cleaned the plate.

I recently visited this Japanese restaurant and tried their lunch special, which included shrimp and veggie tempura along with katsu. The miso soup was definitely a highlight! Rich and flavorful! However, the side veggies were a bit bland, and while the tempura roll sushi was decent, it didn't quite stand out. Overall, it was a solid experience, earning a 4-star rating for the good miso soup and the satisfying katsu and tempura. Would recommend for a casual lunch!

The best Japanese restaurant in the Hampton Roads area. The owner and workers are all Japanese, making it authentic as it can get. All the staff are courteous and friendly. My wife is Japanese and she says it tastes just like home. Inside has a lovely dinner setting and is very clean. The bathrooms are spotless as well. The food is outstanding. The best sushi and the best miso soup in the area. We don't go anywhere else for Japanese food. 10/10.
