Ok. First let me start off by saying that this is one of the best places in the area to get tasty and fresh not "fishy" seafood and we eat here once a month. Now with that said, let me get on to the but....myself and two children(12,4yrs old) on a Monday stop by and ordered 2 entrees and added 2 extra orders of hush puppies. My sides was a salad and fries. Immediately my salad comes out so I go to dress it and notice a hair in my salad. I return the salad, the waitress apologizes and I request another frie as my second side. No thing, im still good. Our entrees appear soon after and we began to eat....my 12 year old is part way through his sandwich when I see the longest strand of hair hanging from his burger....hold that I yell to him. We inform the waitress she apologizes(by now my stomach is queezy) and says " Oh, I will comp all of the orders of hush puppies " . I'm like ok bring me a box for my shrimps and the ticket, she obliges but when she returns she has two boxes and a box of 3 hush puppies. I open the hush puppy box and there's a hair. I open one of the to go boxes and there's another hair!!!!! What in the world? I ask to talk to the manager but there was no manager available(doctors appointment) or at least for me there wasn't. Here's the thing, I had a gut feeling that the "prisoners "was running the prison that day just because a lot of the kitchen staff was hanging in the bar area talking. I ate there anyways because of past visits being great. Now It's likely that I won't return but I want to see you all remain there in Chesapeake square. I just hope you take my experience and upgrade your employees on what happened . I don't know if you should have people wear hair nets or tell waitresses to stop touching their hair so much but the hair thing has got me!!! The old people who been coming there since Amory' s was there might not see it but my people who still frequent surf Riders will be keeping a lookout! Guaranteed...... Anyways, stay busy!!!
P.S. I did try to reach someone in...
Read moreI am deeply disappointed with my recent experience at Surf Rider Chesapeake. This used to be one of my favorite spots for fresh, quality seafood, but it’s clear that things have taken a turn for the worse.
I ordered shrimp and clams with a side salad and broccoli. Shockingly, broccoli, which used to be a standard side, is now upcharged, with the excuse that it's "too big for one side." This just adds to the frustration of what followed. The salad I received looked absolutely unappetizing, as though it had been carelessly thrown together. It was served at room temperature with wilted greens—disgusting and far from the fresh, crisp salad I used to enjoy here.
When I mentioned to the server that the salad didn’t look or taste fresh, she was rude and dismissive. She rushed off with it and returned abruptly with what appeared to be the exact same salad. This behavior raises serious concerns about food handling practices at this restaurant.
It's alarming to see the decline in service and food quality at Surf Rider Chesapeake. The management has clearly changed, and not for the better. The high turnover in staff is evident, especially when you see fliers soliciting employees hanging in the men’s room, which was also poorly maintained.
At this point, Surf Rider is lucky if I don’t file a formal complaint with the local health department. This was once a place I loved for its fresh, quality food and fair prices, but I’m not sure I’ll be returning after this experience. Very...
Read moreI’m not saying that beer battered fish and French fries are healthy, but they sure did taste good.
A bunch of us ate lunch at the Surf Rider this weekend. We just attended a life celebration of a friend who ended his 88 years on this planet, and we were hungry. And we wanted to talk, to destress and connect and talk a bit about Dan. When his son (Keith) invited all of us out to eat for lunch, he definitely picked the right restaurant. Lots of space, delicious food, and a staff that knew how to make people feel comfortable.
I drank sweet tea (and got two refills by an observant waitress) and ate the Classic Fish & Chips. I dipped everything in tartar sauce and took home extras (because I spent so much time talking to friends I’ve known for years and a visiting minister I didn’t know before today). The Alaskan pollock was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. And, of course, fries go with everything, so all was good on my taste buds and in my belly.
I didn’t have to eat seafood, though, as their menu also had burgers and sandwiches and salads. But, I did. If you are ever in the mood for something tasty while in Portsmouth, drop by and try their food. You can find their menu online if you...
