I have been here before and I loved it. However, today’s service was severely lacking. I know they had been busy before we walked in since we had to wait for a table to be cleaned. I didn’t mind waiting at all. What I did have a problem with was the waitress constantly ignoring us. She saw us walk in but refused to come take our order. It took her over 10 mins to come take our order. She walked by our table about 5 times and waited to take orders until another couple walked in and sat down. Instead of taking orders based on who arrived first, she immediately takes the order for the couple that walked in last. After she took our order, it didn’t take long to receive our food and the food did taste good. However, another party walked in after our order was taken and she ignored them so long that they walked out after about 15 mins. Another party had also walked in before that group left. She also was ignoring them and only waited on them after we told her she had more customers. It wasn’t even that busy when we were there so there was no excuse to be ignoring customers. When we were ready to pay, she took my plate and walked by 2 more times but the bill didn’t come. Another couple asked for their bill so I told her I needed mine as well. At least 5 mins passed and I’m still waiting. So I clear the rest of my table and tell them in the kitchen that I need my bill. The waitress eventually comes up but doesn’t know how to redeem my rewards so she goes in the back to get the better waitress. I love the other waitress who gave me my bill as she is very friendly and competent. She was the waitress I had the first time I visited when I had such an amazing experience. Too bad this time wasn’t the...
Read moreI'd love to give this place 5 stars, but just can't quite do that. We've been a handful of times (maybe 5 or 6) at this point, and ever single time my lactose-intolerant husband actively selects "no whipped cream" for his crêpe when he orders through the semi-required online ordering service. And every single time, it comes with whipped cream. Incredibly frustrating. Why have the feature on the ordering platform at all, if whomever is cooking is just going to ignore it? The most recent (and probably final) time we went, he even put "NO WHIPPED CREAM" in the little comment block as well as checking that option, and guess what? Whipped cream.
I realize that offering dairy-free cheese may be a step too far for "traditional French crêpes" (hence, he doesn't typically order a savory one), but simply leaving off the whipped cream off of one should never be a question. Having traveled all over the world, I know this can be done. Tradition easily applies to avoiding substitutions. But simple omissions? Never.
It's really too bad though, since otherwise we have enjoyed coming here very much. The staff are lovely, the crêpes are good, and the atmosphere (though a touch crowded) is charming.
One final note: I have seen many other folks comment on the environmentally irresponsible choices being made here, and I agree. The commen response from the owner is to the effect of "we're getting around to it." Well...it's time. Get to it. Don't keep promising. Do. It's unconscionable to waste that much single-use stuff...
Read moreThe French Creperie is all about crepes! That's what's on the unpretentious menu. My friend treated me to a crepe-making class here for my birthday. Natacha (pronounced Natasha) taught the class herself. Her main objective, besides teaching us how to make crepes and speak a little French, is for everyone to have fun and we certainly did! The evening started with everyone relaxing at the French cafe tables with wine or mimosas. We got to peruse the regular menu and each select either a savory or a sweet crepe that we would make ourselves. I chose the J' Adore (chicken with pesto aioli) with Swiss cheese. My friend chose the Jambon et Fromage with ham and swiss. Then we donned our Parisian aprons and red chef's hats. After some photo ops, we each took a station for the class. Everyone had an electric crepe maker (round griddle), a mixing bowl with a pour spout, a whisk, a batter cup, a spreader and a spatula for flipping the crepes. Natacha walked us through mixing the batter, cooking the crepe, flipping, adding the fillings and folding. Our crepes were not as pretty as those made by Natacha or her assistant, but they were yummy nonetheless. Because it was my birthday I received a free sweet birthday crepe as well - I got to choose the ingredients. I chose cherry preserves, fresh strawberries and chocolate sauce. It was tastier than I expected! Because Natacha made the evening so much fun and the crepe-making so easy, I may even try making...
