I really wanted to like this place but should have known to walk out as soon as we were seated and our drink orders almost finished being ordered before being told "no free refills"......what? We were seated in what seemed to be an employee area where everyone was milling about doing not much and staring at us. As we watched one half a dozen employees eat and the other half dozen chit chat. We did notice the food looking good and large portions, so I had high hopes. My GF ordered the Gyro Plate w/Greek fries, it looked great but the fries were in a pool of vinaigrette? So by the time she constructed her own gyro and remove the pile of meat most of the fries were soggy and sour. My super gyro lacked a super amount of onions needed for a super gyro. Only 4 small wedges of tomatoes and no cucumbers? The gyro meat and tzatziki had absolutely no flavor (no salt?) I was afraid to ask for extra onions as I expected to be charged extra for them. Our friend order the Greek fries but also plain fries and the greek burger. He enjoyed everything but still had an exorbitant about of vinaigrette on his plate, I dipped my Gyro in it to salvage the $10 sandwich. The baklava was dry, below standard and nothing to brag about. Also this is not a big deal but there is no alcohol at this establishment, FYI, not sure if it's BYOB? I rarely leave a bad review for restaurants but the fact that this place has been around since 1972 is mind boggling. The Greek chicken and kabobs might be a better route for dining. Order the Greek fries with the sauce on the side is a must and avoid the...
Read moreToday was my birthday so me and my dad stopped at this restaurant to eat. My dad ordered the Gyro and I ordered the feta burger, and as well as a steak. When my steak arrived I noticed there were hair in my food, so I wasn’t mad call the waitressed and I spoke very low so that other people won’t hear. So I told her there was hair in my food. So she took my food and said she will replace it. So about 15 minutes later the owner comes and brings my food and he starts telling me in 64 years he has never threw away a good steak. And so he’s going on and on......... so and I’m laughing because I think he’s joking, then he walked away. So after about five minutes while I’m eating I started really getting angry because this man never came to apologize about finding hair in my food but he’s given me a story about how I waste a good steak So after eight I approached him and I asked him “ Excuse me sir I want to ask you question, if you found here in your food would you eat it? So he woke up with anger and said you never found hair in your food and ifnthere where hair you put it!! So now I’m raged So we end up arguing he kick me out of the restaurant he never apologized I think he was racist. so the moral of the story is. Any other business restaurant owner if his customers phone here or any type of thing in their food he should head up apologize and said we’re sorry sir but this will never happen please come back But instead he accused me of putting my own hair in...
Read moreThe service sucks and they stole my sunglasses. The food is mediocre. At our last visit to the Athenian Room we were ignored for 30 minutes. We politely asked a server in our section if we could order, she told us she wasn't our server. We then watched a different server blow by us and wait on two tables who had been seated well after us. She barked something at our table about how she was too busy to take our order at the moment and when we complained she had a melt down about all the tables she had. We then decided to leave this hot mess of a restaurant, but in our haste I forgot my sunglasses. I returned another day that week to get them back. I asked the hostess if they had them, but a random woman sitting at a table barked NO at me and then turned away, the hostess then walked away as well. I know for a fact that I left them on that table, so basically they didn't wait on us, treated us rudely when we complained, then stole my glasses. If you're looking for a gyro go to Johnny's on Lincoln. If you're looking for Greek Food, take the cab to Wicker and visit Taxim. If you're looking for food in the area try Kameya across the street, Toast on the other side of Halsted, Taco Joint on Armitage, Interurban in an ally off Armitage, Butcher and the Burger on Armitage, or Local Option and Homeslice on Webster are all better choices, and they won't steal...
