Chkn Box — Restaurant in Chicago

I visited this restaurant after seeing it on social media and was excited to try it! The owner has a good gimmick going on terms of serving food in a shoebox; this is a very unique idea and also one of the reasons that attracted me to the restaurant. When I walked in, the entire place smelled like cooking grease. Most of the time when you walk into a food establishment, you either smell the aroma of the food that is being cooked, or you smell nothing. I’m not sure if the ventilation system is not in working order just yet, but the smell was overwhelming. The quality of the food was also not that great. The pictures looked good online, but the strips tasted like frozen Tyson chicken strips or strips I would have eaten in the cafeteria in college. The fries were also middle of the road, and tasted like the grease they were fried in. The owner seemed very nice and genuine and I want to give this place another shot sometime in the near future. Nice concept. A lot of hype due to the owner. Saw some of the cast from The Chi while waiting for my food. I know it is downtown so it will be pricier than if it wasnt. The chicken did seem like they were frozen tenders from costco or sams club. Some of them were more breading than actual chicken. 3 tenders & fries will probably not fill you up and might make you feel like it wasnt enough for $12. Still too new so it can only improve. Two modest-sized chicken tenders with sauce, each served on a hot dog bun, with fries for $12. That's about standard for downtown prices. I wouldn't want to pay the extra dollar for the premium sauces though. The boxes they are served in are made of quality, heavy-weight paper stock and match the decor.
