I had a terrible experience at Corner Bakery during lunch with my coworker. We ordered through the kiosk, grabbed a number, and sat in the back left corner. About 10 minutes later, I heard our number called and went to grab the food. When I handed over the ticket, the worker—who had a septum piercing and ponytail—rudely snatched it. She handed me the bag carelessly, barely holding onto it, almost causing me to drop it. When we opened it, the pesto cavatappi bowls were half-open, and the food was sloppily packed. It was lukewarm and didn’t taste fresh.
As we ate, I noticed the same worker texting on the job. She then began aggressively cleaning tables near us, stomping, huffing, and muttering under her breath while giving us dirty looks. It was extremely uncomfortable. She seemed to go out of her way to be disruptive, cleaning loudly and invading our space when other tables needed attention first. My coworker and I were in disbelief.
She continued this behavior throughout our meal, making it impossible to enjoy our food. Finally, when we were about to leave, she came right up to our table, practically pushing us out. We felt so uncomfortable that we rushed out, forgetting the bag we planned to carry our food in.
To make matters worse, we never even received the drinks we ordered. I’ve loved Corner Bakery for over 15 years, but this experience was disappointing. The worker’s attitude and actions were unprofessional and disrespectful. I hope management addresses this behavior. I would also like a refund, as the food was poorly packed, not fresh, and the overall experience left me completely dissatisfied. I will never be coming back to this location ever again and I hope that that worker is...
Read moreWhat’s really bad about this situation is that I had already talked with Michelle Rushing, Area Director, about a situation regarding the CB at the Goodman Theatre, 56 W. Randolph. I had ordered the Power Greens Shrimp Salad and I left the CB with no salad or refund money. I thought the situation would get better after talking with Ms. Rushing. I was wrong. I decided to go to the Corner Bakery on Washington and Wells. A young girl named Raven was at the register. When she saw that I had my “Be My Guest” certificates, she gave me attitude and unprofessionalism. With “Be My Guest” certificates, the staff knows that they came from corporate for a bad experience. So, I guess this individual named Raven was going to come off ignorant and uncouth to me because I complained about service at a CB. What she failed to realize is that if I had got good service in the first place, I would not have had to call corporate on any CB. For example, when I went to pay for the order, she was staring at the certificates in my hand. So, we both were just staring at them. After around 30 seconds, she looked up at me and with attitude asked, “You go be using them?” I just looked at her. Totally ridiculous. I don’t know if there is re-training that is needed or if this is just the CB way, but there really needs to be some re-training. Walking pass customers and not greeting them or giving them attitude isn’t going to cut it in downtown Chicago where there are numerous eateries and the competition is fierce to get customers...
Read moreThis used to be my go to place for lunch when downtown for work. The sandwiches used to be delicious, quality ingredients, and well made. It was worth the money. I was even known in my office for always going to this corner bakery for lunch. Over the last few months the food has not been the same. First, I had a sandwich that wasn’t well made, it was put together sloppy and just didn’t taste the same. I know it’s busy at lunch so figured it was a fluke. I went back again, ordered a sandwich and again it was just so-so. I tried a few more times and equally disappointed. Yesterday is the last time I’ll be going here, my chicken in the chicken pesto sandwich was hard and chewy and I just don’t think the ingredients are the same or as fresh anymore. What happened to this corner bakery? It used to be my favorite place to eat and was so yummy. It now seems low quality and not somewhere I’ll be returning unfortunately. I couldn’t even eat my sandwich yesterday it was that chewy...
