I gave this hotel 2 stars initially on gut reaction, but decided to go with 3 stars for a couple reasons: very fast room service, relatively comfortable bed and pillows, and plenty of hot water with great water pressure and a large rain style shower head. I called down for more coffee around 7am, and within 5 minutes housekeeping was dropping off not just 2 packs (it was my check out day), but 4…and it was relatively good coffee for a hotel. Compare that to the boutique and extremely nice, Sofitel, just down the street. Which took over 2.5 hours to deliver room service, and only after I called to ask. Real dishes and a full size fridge were available…you could definitely stay here comfortably long term, but only if you deep cleaned the place. The reason it gets 3 stars is because it was very dirty. Honestly filthy. My bed sheets were most likely not changed as there was longer hair (much longer than mine) between the 2 sheets where you sleep. Not one, not 2, but 3 hairs. I didn’t see any sign of bedbugs or actual dirt, so I chocked it up to the housekeepers hair since the sheets seemed otherwise clean. Long story short, there was hair in the bed and I’m not sure who’s it was, but the sheets were clean enough that I lint rolled the hairs off and let out be. Hospitality staff are working their butts off, so I chose to just sleep on them. All was fine on that front. But the level of dirty in the actual room was egregious. And even though hospitality staff are short staffed and overworked, this room was not worth $200/night. I’m going to let the photos explain. The orange crusty stuff on the shower wall was easily wiped away with a washcloth, so not a stain…the shower just hasn’t been scrubbed in who knows how long. The drain was growing a black sludge (they normally have this hidden with a decorative cover). The walls had lots of streaks and shoe scuffs that were easily wiped away with a wet washcloth. A magic eraser would clean the walls up in <5min. The air filter was so clogged with dust, that it was accumulating on the outside. Who knows when the filter was changed last, just look at the photo. There were greasy shoe prints on the bathroom floor, which means that wasn’t mopped between the last guest and me. Luckily, no athletes foot or other foot fungi to report on. The base boards are included here to show just how much dust they’ve accumulated to compare to the HVAC air filter. And with a down comforter and feather pillows, dust is a real issue accumulating in them, since they typically can only be dry cleaned…and that’s an expense that’s not happening…so everyone, not just those allergic to dust, are going to have some sinus issues. An allergen friendly blanket and pillow were available in the closet…but on a shelf which was covered in dust (these are more commonly found in a linen bag, not in an open shelf). Mildew and mold in all things wet, and yep you guessed it, it wiped off with just a wet washcloth. So it’s an effort thing. I was only here for 2 days, and not sure about housekeeping staffing levels so I didn’t complain about anything but it definitely knocked 2 stars off this review. Also something that didn’t effect this review, but some of you should know…if you have a fear of elevators, you should probably be prepared for a bit of a fright over the elevator. They are tiny, wobble in the shaft, door opens slightly before aligning to the floor, and they are FAST. Not a bad thing, they felt very safe and well maintained, but definitely the elevator from my nightmares. Overall, I would stay here again, but only if the prices were much cheaper or the hotel was better maintained and clean. This is a $150 night hotel for Chicago, but it would be a $100 hotel in any other smaller city.

I am ADA. The ADA room we are in is perfect. I can walk now up to a block however last year I couldn’t walk across the room. So.. if you are absolutely wheelchairbound please consider staying here. Even the bed is lower for perfect transfer. We travel a lot and I’ve never felt more accommodated. The laundry room takes credit cards and the machines are new. There is a comfy place to wait for your laundry. ALSO!!! the airline destroyed my buggy (mobility scooter). Andrew, the chief engineer, was so kind and truly truly was the compassionate face of Marriott for me. The airline had knocked some screws off and broke the gear shift. He made it so I can drive it, though we are still going to have to fight the airline… it is super slow but thanks to Andrew I can still get around Chicago. He did NOT have to do this. He could have waved me away saying “it’s not my job” But.. he represented his company with compassion, humanity, talent, and dedication. I did not feel like a bother. I saw a talented,‘obviously great hire, giving all his attention to help a Marriott guest. I hope corporate sees this and commends him for his compassion. His effort was worth so much more than standardized practice and marketing dollars. I wish more people did their jobs this way. Also, the staff here is wonderful. When I come and go, they greet me like I’m a cherished guest. With the scooter, they open the door for me and smile genuinely, and look me in the eyes. Also, complimentary breakfast 6:30-9:30 weekdays. We’ve stayed at other Chicago hotels where breakfast is $40. Great place. Oh!!! This was the historic Roanoke hotel and it just happens to be the largest renaissance inn globally.

Overall, it was a very nice hotel, and we would stay here again. Would give 4.5 stars, if able. Why? I don't know who decides the room details .... but it certainly isn't anyone who uses the room!!! Let's talk about the bed. Very comfortable but they added a mattress topper. Sounds great but the sheets do NOT FIT with the topper so they do NOT stay on the bed. Who's the genius that made that decision??? Not anyone that sleeps in the bed!! Now let's talk about the bathroom. Again, it's a nice hotel but the details dropped it to 4 stars. Who designs these bathrooms??? Not just this hotel but all of them. Obviously, no women IN CHARGE of the design teams. These "new" designs where there is no shower door, water all over the floor, the bath mat is now soaken wet. Really??? If the glass shower wall was, perhaps 6-8" longer, it would eliminate or significantly reduce having guests using the bath towels to dry up the floor. Now let's talk about dem towels and some basic mathematics and basic hygiene and common sense .... so now the towel that I just used to dry off with is on the floor to mop up the water. We reserved the room for 2 adults and 1 child. How many bath towels? TWO. How many wash clothes? TWO. Marriott wants us to be environmentally conscious (wink, wink, save them money) by reusing our towels thus no room service for 2 days. Will your executives use the same wash cloth on their bodies for 2 days before taking a new one? I just know that when I shower at home, I use ONE wash cloth each time I clean myself. Anything else is gross. And where is the towel BAR so it can dry between uses?? No bar for the hand towels either. Back to basic math, hygiene and common sense: 2 people in a room for 2 days means FOUR wash clothes. Don't make me ask the front desk for them when the hotel should have enough in the bathroom for the number of people registered for that room for the days between service.

The drinks and food at the bar in the evening when we got in ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The breakfast bar ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Quality was 5⭐️but staff did not stay on top of replenishing everything. Also the layout was poor. It became a (not)treasure hunt to find plates, forks, spoons, knives, condiments, etc. Some of that challenge was...

Marriott 12/26/18

The staff and the breakfast food were good however the rest of my stay was horrible! We checked in the room on 12/26/18. When it was time for us to go to bed my bottom sheet had spots on it, the towel I was going to use after my shower was dirty so I got a different towel which it was clean but very very scratchy. There was a dirty wash rag with makeup and mascara all over it on the sink behind the Kleenex box, then the next morning when I got up I opened the closet and found poop on the floor! I did contact the desk and at first I was going have them clean the room but just the thought of that in the closet all of us in my group decided that we wanted a different room. The staff did move us to a different room which it was smaller than our first room but at least it did not have poop on the floor.

When booking the hotel, the pictures showed that there was a pool and hot tub. When we asked where it was when we were at the hotel we were informed that there was not one. Why was it advertised that you had one? That is false advertisement.

The breakfast was really good but the coffee the first day was not good. The second day the coffee was absolutely horrible! Even the gentleman at the table next to me was even commenting on it not being good also. During breakfast the second day the staff in the dining area was very nice but they wanted to take our plates away before we were even done eating. I stepped away from my table for a second and they started taking my plate away. The lady at the table next to me they tried taking her plate away before she was finished with it.

I did not enjoy my stay at your hotel after the incident in my first room. I felt very uncomfortable just being in the hotel. I will not return and I will make sure that people that I know that go to Chicago do not stay at your Hotel.

I did not make a commotion when I talked to the girl at the desk about what was in our room because I don't believe in making scenes, however I wish I would have been offered a better room or some of our money back for the inconvenience of moving rooms. This trip was to celebrate my sons 16th birthday so it was not what I was hoping for...
