Can't say enough good things about this hotel. It's absolutely beautiful!! The room was on the small side, but I knew that going in. I didn't feel cramped at all. The furnishings were really pretty. The room, as well as the hallways, were very moody and dark but never gave me an unsafe feeling. The bed wasn't the best, but I've definitely slept on worse. It should be replaced sooner rather than later. The sheets were not all cotton, so they made me sweat and/or there is a waterproof mattress pad, which is very uncomfortable. The water pressure. Wasn't great in my room. I can't stand it when it takes me 20 minutes to get soap out of my hair. It wasn't a trickle, but it could be stronger. Because of the way the shower was set up, water got all over the floor, and it was quite slippery. I started out in a room where there was construction right outside the window. I let the front desk know, and they came to my room with a key for another room and brought me to the next room, which was very quiet. I really appreciated them not making me go back downstairs to trade keys. 5 minutes later, a gentleman appeared at my door with a bottle of pinot noir, and he welcomed me to the hotel. The customer service all around in this hotel was really great. The biggest complaint I have is that there isn't an outlet near a mirror outside of the bathroom. I really don't like drying and styling my hair in the bathroom after I shower. The humidity just makes my hair stay frizzy. I have to remember to pack an extension cord for all future trips to all hotels! The lobby and bar area is absolutely gorgeous here. There is a pretty fireplace. Gorgeous furnishings. And there are little spots all around where you can sit and chat. My group of girlfriends sat and had cupcakes under q beautiful chandelier in a quiet, cozy corner. If you are seeing a show at the Cadillac Palace Theater, which I was, you can't beat the location of the Allegro! It's right next door. There's also Starbucks next door on the other side! Thank you for a great stay, Allegro!

Very mixed experience at the Allegro Royal Sonesta. The aesthetic is almost entirely art deco, which provides an interesting and unique environment throughout the hotel. But slowly, the hotel itself begins to feel as though it hasn’t been updated since art deco was the predominant style, and you realize you may have made a huge mistake. In other words, the place is old, the rooms are small, the elevators are tiny, and the amenities too few. My experience was also uniquely painful: each night a high-pitched screech would sound directly behind the wall of my room on the tenth floor, waking me up each time (and as early in the morning as 3am). It turns out, the sound was emanating from an ice machine on the other side of the wall, so each night I would need to call the front desk and ask them to send an engineer to assess the problem, and he would unplug the ice machine. The problem was that someone would then plug it back in, and I would still be awoken at some ungodly hour of the morning. On top of that, the rooms have no coffee makers, the walls are thin, and my television was old and did not work. Don’t get me wrong: it’s not the worst place, and if you can get it cheap or get a great deal on points, it could still be worth it (especially if you want to stay near a theater). But don’t make this your first choice. There are too many great options in Chicago, many of which are comparable in price.

The building is beautiful. When you first walk in the building the lobby has sort of a dark retro-like atmosphere. I felt like I was transported back in time. Then you are greated by some to guide you up the stairs to check in. That area opens high cathedral-like ceilings. The color lightens up with the light coming through the windows... a significantly different experience from first entering the building. There I was greated by two lovely ladies who walked me through the checkin... they were very helpful. The room was very clean. I was unable to connect my laptop to the free service. First, I was getting an error message that I needed to be closer to the router, when I was unable to have the webpage load up for me to inset the password they provided. Since, I was here on business... this was a major fail. For the entire stay, I used my hotspot. Food selections were slim pickins unless you wanted to walk two city blocks or more. The reason why I give it an average score, is because... i dont believe its worth the money one pays... Disclaimer.... i do not travel often, but I have stayed in my fairshare of hotels.... perhaps I expected more for the price. That was my mistake... this hotel does have culture, but if Id known, I was paying for this, I would have stayed in a hotel with more modern ameneties and a variety of food choices.

One last week I came back from getting food and water for my son. I arrived back at the hotel around 8:30 pm. I walked in BEHIND the security guard. I then arrived on my floor and noticed a short, Caucasian man with a beard that inhabited the room next to mine standing in the hallway. As my keys did not work I had to yell to get my son to open the door for me. We went in the room where I began to talk with my son’s father and then there was a knock at the door.

The Top Flite security guard was at my door accusing us of yelling and screaming for the past 40 minutes. At this time I reminded her that I walked in the building behind her and was not in the room. She then said she walked down the hall and heard noise from our room. I was on the phone with my son’s father and did ask my son where was my phone and when she knocked told him to answer the door.

Apparently, the guests in room 1418 said that it sounded like a woman was getting beat every night at 3am in the morning in our room. This is a blatant lie as we are asleep every night at 3am and I’m the only woman in the room and absolutely no one is beating me. They are blatantly lying on my son and myself. The facts were right in front of the security guard.

1.) How can a lady be screaming for the past 40 minutes when, as I walked in behind Melani from outside, I wasn’t even in the room?

2.) How can someone be screaming like they are getting beat at 3am when we are both asleep??

3.) If someone was getting beat at 3am then why not call security then???

I believe this man took racial issue with myself and my son and decided to blatantly lie on us.

This has been the worst detractor from an already less than stellar stay. I have paid an exorbitant amount of money for one of the smallest hotel rooms I’ve ever occupied. The last room I stayed in this small was a Red Roof Inn back in the 2000’s… My keys work when they get ready. Now the staff has been absolutely amazing with the glaring exception of Top Flite security. They did upgrade my room to move me away from the liars that started this mess but that was not enough compensation for how bad this made me feel.

I am livid, hurt, and totally feel violated. Now I’m leery of this member of your staff colluding with my white neighbors to lie on me. And then the computers were down so I couldn't even check out properly. And then there's the same exact breakfast we were served four...

Do not waste your money coming here, spend it else where. There was a number of situations that left a bad taste in my mouth, however the valet service was the main reason I would never come back and ruined our stay here. When our stay was over we were told to call 15-20 min ahead for our car and ended up waiting close to an hour to receive our car cutting into our day we had planned and pushing reservations back. Ended up paying almost $90 for terrible valet service. The gentleman that greeted us upon checking in at the front desk was also unfriendly and cold. I had lost my charger and came down to ask if they had a charging station at the front I could leave my phone at before heading out to dinner reservations. The gentlemen told me he doesn’t have any. I asked if I could buy one and he turned to show me they had sold out…. I asked him okay is there a place you can recommend I go buy one at he said you can try the seven eleven up the street. He came across as bothered and troubled that I even asked. How are y’all a four star hotel and don’t have chargers for your guest? I ended up having to walk to seven eleven to buy a $60 charger for the inconvenience because I had no other option. The bell man was also very cold and had a blank stare on his face when we thanked him multiple times for bringing up our luggage , he never once responded with a “you’re welcome” or a smile at least… just silence which was awkward and very odd. The bartender also stared at my friends ID multiple times looking back at her and the id for almost a minute straight and when we tried to laugh it off awkwardly since that’s never happened to her since she’s well over the legal drinking age, he didn’t even crack a smile or say anything to justify it… I get you’re just doing your job with the ID check but it felt like he was judging her. Overall staff was weird and the energy in the hotel is unsettling and valet service was the worse I’ve ever experienced. Paid close to $500 for a one night stay just to end up having a terrible experience for my first time...
