âââ 3/5 Stars
Kill Oneâs Ice Cream on Michigan Ave has some fantastic ice cream, but the overall experience left a lot to be desired.
Parking & Location:
As expected for Michigan Ave, thereâs no dedicated parking. Youâll need to find a nearby spot, and I recommend using SpotHero to reserve a space in the underground garage for a more affordable option.
Atmosphere & Seating:
The store is small and often crowded, with very limited seatingâjust two tables available. If youâre looking for a place to sit and enjoy your ice cream, this may not be the best option.
Ice Cream & Offerings:
The ice cream itself is excellent, easily 5/5 stars in terms of quality. I tried the cherry flavor, which was delicious, and my daughter loved the Superman flavor. They also offer a variety of caramel apples, which looked great for those wanting something extra.
Pricing & Portioning:
The prices are quite high for ice creamâ$20 for two cones, which is steep even for a prime location. Given the cost, I expected a more premium experience. Unfortunately, the portion sizes and service didnât quite justify the price.
Customer Service & Experience:
This was the biggest downside of my visit. The staff did not seem welcoming, which really impacted the overall experience. When I asked for sprinkles, only a few were added, and when I requested more, I was told it would cost extraâwhich is understandable, but the delivery felt unnecessarily rude. The general attitude of the staff made the experience feel uninviting. Additionally, they were quite stingy with napkins, which seemed odd given the premium pricing.
Cleanliness:
Iâd rate the cleanliness 3.5/5âit wasnât filthy, but it wasnât spotless either. It could use more attention, especially given the high foot traffic.
Final Verdict:
â Ice Cream: 5/5 (Great flavors, high quality) â Customer Service: 2/5 (Unfriendly and uninviting) â Atmosphere & Seating: 2.5/5 (Limited space, crowded) â Pricing & Value: 2.5/5 (Overpriced for the experience) â Cleanliness: 3.5/5
Overall, I wouldnât mind paying premium prices if the service matched the quality of the ice cream, but the unfriendly staff and overall stinginess made it a disappointing visit. If youâre just looking for good ice cream and donât mind the lack of seating or hospitality, it might be worth stopping byâbut I wouldnât go out of my...
Read moreThe service was great and the sales associate was super helpful and nice. The place was clean and the displays set up provided folks like myself - not familiar with Kwilins a opportunity of all that the confectionary shop has to offer. I decided to try their much to hear about ice cream. I went with the two of the original flavors or your basics Vanilla and Chocolate - not a fan of Strawberry because of the real fruit placed in the ice cream. I will probably go back and try another flavor much later, but the chocolate didnât taste like chocolate and was kind of bland; on the hand the vanilla was pretty decent even thought it really didnât look like vanilla. I also tried and purchased some of their chocolates. I havenât been a fan of Milk Chocolate since my teenage years because MC has a tendency to be too sweet for my palate. So I purchased instead a couple of Dark Chocolate cashew pixies or turtles, a couple of Dark Chocolate covered Carmelâs and a Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter cup. Here is my assessment of all purchased - the Peanut Butter cup was smooth, rich and had real peanut butter in the middle and was really good - much better than anything you buy in the grocery stores, if you know what I mean. Any confectionary shop that sells cashew pixies or turtles get a big nod in my book because I havenât been a fan of the pecan version in years. Their version of the chocolate covered cashew turtles was good, plenty of cashews mixed in with real fine smooth Carmel - nice!!! I really didnât enjoy their Dark Chocolate Carmel as much, the DC part had no flavor, the Carmel had a weird tastes and was kind of hard like it was old. All and all this place has much to offer besides the things I mentioned above and I will be back to try another ice...
Read moreI have tried a few different Kilwins locations and have loved them all! Except this one. The ice cream is good and I love that this is my âlocalâ ice cream shop- we live in the neighborhood. There is a gelato spot a couple blocks up the road and a couple Baskin Robbins but we like to support small businesses. However- my husband and I have been to this location a handful of times and I can honestly say weâve never had a positive interaction. Itâs not just that the employees are not super cheery/welcoming⊠itâs that they literally are too busy on their phones (in between customers when thereâs a line) or the fact that not one employee in there has ever greeted us, said âthank youâ or âgoodbyeâ or literally give ANY response after we pay and thank THEM for serving us. Itâs disappointing and honestly just poor customer service seeing as this is a big city and there are dozens of other options within a half mile radius. Hopefully they can get it together at that location, because I saw the owner on the news a few months ago talking about a few hardships sheâs endured and Iâd like to continue to support her- but not if her employees canât even crack a smile at any point during our...
