I was treating my siblings to the Hallelujah Gospel Brunch as part of my Christmas present to them. We arrived for our 11:00am reservation on time and were surprised by how quiet and empty the restaurant was. Music was playing but there were no signs of an organist or a sing-a-long as expected. It was our first time here so we assumed it would be starting eventually. Halfway through our meal, when we finally asked our server when the organist was starting, we were only then informed that there would be no live music for 2 weeks. While the food and service were excellent, I feel that at some point while making the reservation the Wednesday before, or when we entered the restaurant, we should have been informed of the change. If we chose to keep our reservation then it would have been our choice. Again, the decor, catchy menu selections, food and service were all excellent but we also went for the experience and we didn’t get our Hallelujahs. If I just wanted to have breakfast with my siblings we could have gone anywhere. Next time a little transparency would be...
Read moreThis location was a neighborhood store, and then for a decade or so a candy store, and while the candy is gone, the place is one that you can get a tasty treat for lunch or dinner. If you are in the area, it is a higher-end experience than most other nearby establishments. If you are familiar with the area you know it is one with only limited street parking as Morgan Street is a smaller two-lane street and the stretch of businesses at that point is just three blocks with residences mixed in between. For those not savvy, taking cabs or ride-share services, you are not likely to notice any issues -- particularly for lunch or an early dinner. Oh -- and there is a very unique Chicago mural that reflects the political history of Bridgeport and its mayoral...
Read moretl;dr: The food was fantastic, service was excellent, and the atmosphere was wonderful.
Long version: I went there with my brother and happened to eat during one of their gospel brunches. The owner was singing with the musician and I had one of their St. Benedict eggs benedict (including the processional). The eggs benedict consist of three poached eggs sitting on some very nice sausage, over a thick slice of bread and topped with a hollandaise sauce. They bring out a portrait of Pope Benedict with candles, so that you can "dine with the pope".
I sampled my brothers creme brulee french toast... I've never heard of it before and it was fantastic. I had such a good time that I followed up my initial order with a steak and creme brulee. Both were very, very good.
Over all, it was wonderful! I have never had more fun having brunch (or had such a hard time walking...
