Unprofessional and rude!!!!
No wonder this place is empty. I came on the weekend and it wasn't busy. There was only one table occupied in the entire restaurant.
I ordered two burritos they're most popular the pork belly one that was featured on TV and the michelada burrito.
The pork belly was very flavorful and very tender. However the only gave me five pieces/chunks of pork belly in the entire burrito and stuffed the rest of it with shredded lettuce and rice as you can see in the pic below so that was disappointing given that it was $13 a burrito.
The michelada burrito had a nice kick to it 🔥 BUT they didn't chop the meat, they put a slab of thin sliced meat so slices of meat came out with every bite which made it difficult to eat. I recommend that they chop the meat up. Nobody wants to eat huge pieces/slices of meat in every bite. It makes it messy and unpleasant to eat, disappointed again.
What's worse is that I wanted to order some of the agua frescas to go and the lady that was there that took the order, she pretended like she didn't understand what I was saying or spoke Spanish.
I spoke to her in English at first and I could tell she didn't understand so then I started speaking to her in Spanish and she responded back a few words in Spanish and then stopped talking all together and made it seem like she didn't understand at all and I speak fluent in Spanish. I'm not sure how she was servicing the white family that was there if she didn't understand English or Spanish.
She gestured with her hands indicating that they didn't have any to-go cups so I couldn't even take an agua fresca to go. How do you not have to go cups for people who want to order takeout!!???? I've never heard of a restaurant not having to go cups, how ridiculous!!!!
You need to get somebody in there who can actually communicate effectively with the customers. I know she understood me in Spanish but she pretended like she didn't. How unprofessional and rude.
Not only that but she was taking the orders up front handling the card machine and the cash and then I saw her back in the kitchen preparing our orders along with one other guy who I'm assuming is the cook. I thought this was unsanitary given that she was handling the money up front. I gave her the benefit of the doubt hoping that she washed her hands before handling the food.
Some feedback for management would be to only have one person back there dealing with the food and one person dealing with the money up front to avoid contamination for sanitary reasons. And also get somebody who speaks English or Spanish.
I doubt I'll be coming back here. The prices are a little bit better than Martinez's bar which is two blocks from them but the customer service was so terrible and they didn't put a lot of pork belly in my burrito, had no to go cups, that I just can't justify coming back even if the burrito is a decent size and it's a few bucks less for the burrito than Martinez.
I'm not even sure how they're still open and operating. Maybe the pilsen location is better. Spent $29 tax included for just for two burritos no drinks because they had...
Read moreA wonderful addition to Morgan St. When I first realized this was to be another Mexican restaurant, I wondered how they would differentiate themselves. Once you arrive here, you will know the answer immediately. The food all appears to be homemade, all the way down to the salsas and tortillas. Most of the dishes may have common names, but the recipes are more inventive and certainly are much more artisanal than expected.
This may, in fact, be the most elevated cuisine in Bridgeport. The chile relleno was fantastic, easily the best I've ever had. Neither greasy nor heavily deep-fried, but light, it features an al dente poblano and a delicious paste inside made from (I gather) cheese and chickpea, somewhat like polenta.
As another reviewer mentioned, the vegetarian / vegan options were a draw for us, and the restaurant was accommodating in providing a few other selections. The vegan tacos were good, and very substantial considering the price. My only critical comment would be to hope they permanently expand their vegetarian options, as I would love to try a greater variety of what this restaurant has to offer.
One last point: It is great to see these formerly shuttered storefronts reactivated. In this case, the renovation bucked the deplorable trend in Bridgeport of mutilating the historic building. Therefore this establishment deserves our praise for being respectful in its approach to...
Read moreWe've been meaning to go here for months but just haven't had a chance. We finally made it and it definitely won't be the last time. The food was excellent. Every single item we had was delicious and it was all cooked to order, which makes a huge difference.
We were greeted with a free cup of this delicious poblano and tomato soup. Even though it was really hot outside, we had it all because it was so good. Next up was the octopus and chorizo appetizer. Amazing. Probably the most tender octopus I've ever had. We then had a couple of tacos: al pastor and the shrimp. The homemade tortillas were so good slightly different than any I've had before and I loved them. The shrimp was delicious with a nice little kick and the al pastor was so juicy with just the right amount of pineapple.
She also had made a huge vat of watermelon juice/water. What a perfectly refreshing drink on such a hot day and it went to so well with the savory spices in the food. Can't wait to try the breakfast next. We will definitely be going there again. I hope others do, too. It's never very crowded as it's not easy to spot on a low-visibility street. I'd love to see them stick around.
Final word: the server was so pleasant and so nice. It was only her first week but she was terrific and the chef/owner was also so welcoming and friendly and her food is just outstanding. Don't...
