Before I swapped California sunshine for Cape Cod breezes, I made one last flavorful pit stop at La Fiesta Mexican Bar and Grill in Chico and I’m glad I did. This wasn’t just a meal. It was a sendoff worthy of mariachi music and a frozen margarita toast.
Let’s start with the food: fire-grilled shrimp sizzling over peppers and onions, the kind of skillet that turns heads when it hits the table. The birria tacos were rich, cheesy, and golden-seared to perfection, with a deeply savory consommé for dipping every bite a messy, magnificent win. The combo plates brought it all together: classic rice and beans, fresh pico, guac, sour cream, and cheese so generous it should’ve paid rent.
The place is full of charm, too. Walking through the doors is like stepping into a vibrant fiesta bright papel picado overhead, carved wooden benches, tiled floors that feel like abuela’s house, and cheerful service that made us feel like family. I especially loved the colorful little photo-op corner by the entrance perfect for capturing the last California memory before heading east.
It’s not fancy. It’s real. The kind of restaurant where flavors speak louder than trends, and you leave with a full belly and a bigger smile. Whether you’re rolling through Chico or you’re lucky enough to call it home, La Fiesta deserves a spot on your regular rotation.
And if you’re heading out of town like I was, this is the kind of farewell feast that sticks with you right next to the taste of lime and roasted onion.

After looking at the menu, which WAS different, yet somehow still the same, we all came to our choices. My wife had the Fajitas Carnitas, my Son had the Steak Burrito, and I had the "Mixto" Fajitas (steak, chicken, and shrimp). The chips, salsa, and refried beans were brought to our table to appease our appetite until our food arrived... which was a whopping 27 minutes later. Now, I'll give a benefit of the doubt to an establishment that is fairly new, but they've had time to work out the kinks by now. While the portions were quite large and appetizing, the taste was...Minimalistic at BEST. Not much flavor to ANY of the meats, or the Guacamole, and the salsa tasted mass-produced. The veggies were at that in-between place between perfect and overcooked, but were the best part of the Fajitas, and the rice was just red... NO extra length was put into making it extraordinary. The Burrito was fat and long, but rolled haphazardly. Nobody could finish their meal, and we took it with us. The staff was attentive, but they were heavily pushing their deserts, like that could salvage the dinner we ate. Priced MORE than Casa Ramos, but not worth it. Better restaurants in town for this price, so I suggest you do your research. Will we be back? Doubtful... but then if the restaurant survives 6 months, who knows. This is...
Read moreThis restaurant is amazing. The service was very quick and helpful. The atmosphere was very fun and inviting. Greeted with smells of authentic spices from south of the border. This place was a great surprise. I drove past it all the time, finally decided to give it a shot, and I was not disappointed. This has to be one of the best restaurants for quality and quantity. Ordered 2 Shredded Beef Tacos, a Shredded Beef Enchilada, and a Ground Beef Green Wet Burrito. Sauces were excellent and not overly spicy. A great balance of flavors in the rice and beans. Beef was very well seasoned and cooked well. All came down to flavor. I give this experience a 15.8/15. We had an absolutely amazing night. Thank you for a wonderful dinner La Fiesta. Can't wait...
