My family and I came in today for a late breakfast. We had to wait a bit, but it was understandable since it was so busy.
The menu selection was great; lots of interesting and thoughtful dishes for a popular Sunday breakfast joint.
Our waiter, Lucas, was very friendly and patient. The unfortunate thing, however, was that he had a large section and no support from other staff. He was having to do drink service, refills, ring in checks, make orders etc etc. Where was the back waiters, runners, etc? You could get the sense there was a level of frustration from guests, but it was evident he was trying hard to meet expectations. Maybe a staffing issue?
For the most part, the food was good. My family all seemed happy with their selection. The food was hot and the portions we're sizeable.
The only thing negative about the food were my biscuits and gravy. The biscuits I had were dry and somewhat rubbery. I don't want to assume they were day old, but perhaps they were from early in the morning or were overheated before the gravy was poured over. My family had their biscuits as their side and they were warm, fresh, and tender. My potatoes too, had a fair amount of char from the bottom of the pan on them.
Last note, the women's restroom, though seemingly clean, was incredibly dusty. A little attention to the restrooms would be beneficial.
Overall 3 stars. I wouldn't mind going again, maybe when it...
Read moreMom's...sister company of Madison Bear Garden, sitting on the opposite cat corner on Salem in downtown Chico, is actually the BETTER of the 2 restaurants. Why? Let's start with outside dining and better overall atmosphere...NOW, let's get to the real reason, the FOOD!! My wife and I stopped in for breakfast on a Saturday morning and were seated in about 2 minutes. The mood is uplifting, the inside is beautiful and subdued, and the staff plentiful and friendly. My wife ordered the Corned Beef Hash with 3 poached eggs and potatoes, I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak with 3 over easy eggs, and we also ordered the French Toast to share. The wait time was minimal before we got our meal, and it was a glorious feast for both the eyes and stomach. Everything was cooked to perfection, from the tenderness of the corned beef and the chicken fried steak, to the prep of the eggs and the doneness of the potatoes, through to the French toast smothered with a scoop of cream in the middle. Our waitress checked on us a minimum of 6 times, refilling our coffee as needed. Dining here will have you spoiled against other establishments. The prices are fair considering the amount of food you receive, and it should be noted that we've heard ZERO bad reviews about Mom's. We will eat here a few more times just to further check out the menu deeper. Sorry, Nash's... you've been...
Read moreSo, we just went to have breakfast there and had the worst experience. Started off with a long wait for our order, generally not a huge deal if it weren't for the fact both the orders were bad. The people next to us ordered biscuits and gravy, but sent them back for whatever reason. My friend also ordered biscuits and gravy but with no eggs. Well about a minute after the gentleman next to us sent his back, we got a huge plate with biscuits and gravy, potatoes and a huge empty spot on the plate, and I mean like a whole third of the plate was just empty with grease on it. So pretty sure they just took this guy's plate took the eggs off and gave it to my friend. They were not warm at all. I got the veggie hash and it came out without the main sauce on top and was just all around not great. We're pretty frustrated at this point and I go and ask to speak to a manager. This guy goes and looks and says he can't find him. We ask who we can talk to and this kid basically says no one. He gives no solution. Waitress comes around and say the bill is covered. No apology at all at any time. Would have rather just spoke to a manager instead of writing on here, but unfortunately that wasn't going to...
