Too many parking meters are coin only. The skating rink was fun but the ice was in poor condition and the skates gave my kid a blister in less than 1 hour. Seems pretty waste full to have an outdoor skating rink in 70* weather. The plaza used to be awesome. Tall trees, grass, gazebo and loads of shade and benches. Now it's mostly cement and designed to be uncomfortable to deter homeless people.

Chico City Plaza is great! It has a water fountain that comes out from the ground which makes it fun for children to play on a hot summer day. There is a public performance stage, many park benches, and public restrooms. There is also a memorial piece honoring our veterans.

What a pleasant find during my walking tour of downtown Chico. I was needing a rest and there were plenty of places to sit in the shade. The sound of the fountain added to the relaxing atmosphere. I wish Redding had something like this near their downtown area.

I have lived in and around the plaza for 10 years as aambassador 2 troubled/runaway kids on the street. Nobody asked me 2 do this. I am who I am. I have photos of all natures of the city plaza. From before they spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to make a ice skating rink, to bring revenue and pocket the profits. To distribute elsewhere instead of helping all the unhoused individuals in the downtown area and other surrounding parks or creeks or even butte County. HOW ABOUT WE LEASE OR RENT A POWER OUTLET OR SOURCE FOR THE INDIVIDUALS FACING HARDSHIPS IN CHICO? No way, they came up with a even better plan to put up a fence around the city of chico building across the street.. Why is there not a full time pet/human shelter that includes needs for a owner of a pet to be sheltetered? There is not one here, but is literally about a quarter of the unhoused individuals issue with going into a shelter is because they have pets they will not separate from.. I have a lot of issues with the way the judge has court ordered the city to find a better reason to move us other than they don't like seeing them, that there is a ton of money going towards the task force here to harass and literally terrorize the already struggling individuals by writing them a $1000 citation for the same pet they won't or don't have a shelter for the both of them in the first place. There's my point by the way. Months, or maybe even years of interactions between, a unhoused individual that is the owner of a well known, behaved dog downtown (Khaos) and a pretty good police officer have taken place. The officer (Rush) recently wrote the owner a citation for the pet. A hefty one.. but note that there is no shelter that accepts pets in Chico. Why are the individuals at city hall being cited at their homes?homes still? What kind of people throw money at a task force whose hired to eradicate the unhoused population and monitor all camps and terrorize the churches and great people that showup to make sure we are warm and fed in the times of our hardships? Why are we still being TERRORIZED, and harassed with the court order from the...

The plaza is just that, our plaza. I remember back in the 1990's/ early 2000's when the plaza was full of trees. Some redwoods and maples and others. And the old wooden gazebo that was in the center where the bands would gather to play, weddings would be held, and birthday parties. Then the trees got termites and they just decided it was too much to keep the grassy plaza, and replaced it with this cement nightmare... Sure now we have a fountain... But I really miss the gazebo. I wish they hadn't taken it out.

It's still a nice place to gather during the Taste of Chico and during the summer for the Thursday Night Markets and the Friday Night Concert in the Park. The fountain does get turned on during the summer.

But besides that it has sadly turned into a zombie graveyard. When the plaza isn't being used for city wide activities, it is filled with drugged out homeless human beings. (Nothing against them, they just don't maintain themselves enough to make the area look clean.) They do get asked/told to move along daily, but the homeless situation in Chico is just out of control.

So if you're interested in coming to Chico, the plaza isn't the nicest place to go to in town, but it does have a chlorinated fountain for...

City plaza.... What to say...

It's cool when there are events going on and they hire security to keep things safe and sane. The Friday concerts in the park are fun. Market is fun. Taste of Chico is fun... Etc.

However... It's basically a homeless camp the entire rest of the time. It's a very sketch place to be, day or night, when it's just a regular day. Somewhat scary looking characters gather there with their dogs, drugs, bikes, carts, etc. I wouldn't go in the bathrooms at the plaza, no matter how bad I had to go or what time of day it was.

It's sad that the City has allowed this to happen to such a potentially great spot. I wouldn't recommend going to the plaza unless you're attending a specific event. Going there just to go there won't be fun...
