Burgers and Brew has been my very favorite restaurant ever since it opened in Chico- it was my "splurge" place when I had a few extra bucks in my pocket and could afford a luxury (going out to eat on a student's income). I have bragged to anyone who would listen that their burgers are the very best I had ever tasted, "the best burgers in the universe".... The service had always been wonderful, every single time... until it wasn't. Last weekend I went in and ordered at the bar (wait staff does not take your order, it's a "pay first" deal)- I was terribly thirsty and ordered a beer first, gave the young man behind the bar my credit card and began looking at the menu. When I decided, I gave him my order, he gave me a number flag and I went and found a table on the patio.
I had an hour to eat, which had never been a problem before. About 10 minutes after I sat down, a couple sat at the table next to me, and ten minutes after that, another couple sat down at another nearby table. After a short while, both of those tables were served. I got up and went in to ask where my food was- a young lady who was serving inside told me "I see it coming up right now, if you return to your table it will be there shortly," or something to that effect. So I went and sat down. I waited another 10 minutes. By this time I had been waiting 50 minutes, and I saw that I was running out of lunch time. I went back in to the bar, very unhappy and hungry, and said I would have to pay for my beer and go, my food never came. The young man behind the bar called another young man over (seemed to be the person in charge at the moment), because my bill was $17.08, and I'd only gotten one beer. He asked the young man what happened to my order, the reply was "I don't know." The (supervisor?) then handed my back my credit card and said, and I quote: "Sorry." (with a sort of look and tone that said "what can ya do? Stuff happens." I left, hungry, disappointed and not likely to come back. This morning I checked my credit card statement, and there is a charge on it from B and B for $17.08 with "temporary hold" next to it. I called and asked the manager what that was about, since I had never signed a credit card slip. Today's manager didn't know why there would be anything on my credit card at all, and said if I would print my statement out and bring it down, she would "take care of it." So now I have to make a special trip for this, and go back to the place I had decided not to return to. I will write an amendment to this review and let you know how...
Read moreThis is a typical next-to-campus joint. No service, ordinary food, the same beer selection as everyone else. Bad management, but who cares, it's next to campus so you'll get enough business. The policies here seem to be designed to minimize tips and they're quite successful. Our waitress actually got in trouble for splitting our check. That's right, they have a "no split checks" policy and they yell at their waitstaff for going the extra mile. Well, it's not a mile, but more like a foot. It's not that hard to split a check into 2 or 4.
But service. Fercyrinoutloud, presumably this place is a "business" and presumably its business is trading beer for money. I finished my first beer and then my glass sat empty for over one-half hour. Then other people at our table had empty glasses too. Finally the waitress came by and asked if we needed anything. "Really? There are 5 empty glasses here, so yes, we need anything, we need some freakin' service." Oh, do you want another beer. "Yes." Then she disappeared and brought ONE beer. The other four people were left to extract beers, one at a time, from this non-waitress. Later, when I had finished my second beer, my glass again sat empty while the waitress stood behind the bar chatting with other less-than-useless employees. Then suddenly we had the check. Someone, I assume the unwaitress, decided we were leaving. We went somewhere more fun and spend a few hundred bucks closing the place down. Some of my friends stayed a bit longer to finish, but reported that the unwaitress complained that she'd been yelled at for splitting the check. We wasted two hours of our last evening in Chico at this lackadaisical place. Maybe all the...
Read moreToday was my first time walking into this establishment, and it will be the last. I've worked in the food service industry for 10 years. I'm not one to even write reviews, and this is the first time I have felt the need to. I walked in, the two men at the counter looked at me, and continued facing each other talking, while I stood in front of the register. I waited until I said.. "Hi..." Rudely, as if I had interpreted them, they scowled at me and made it apparent that I was clearly out of line for saying hi. There was no one inside, no one behind me, and no reason for this to have happened. I waited patiently when they saw me standing there, and when I said, " can I order?" Jason said, "I mean I'm standing right here". This guy clearly had a bad day, and I understand and have empathy, being that I have had days like this. But he was so profoundly rude to me, that I said, " should I order somewhere else?" and when he replied " I don't know, maybe", I felt tears well up in my eyes, and I said ok. He made a comment about the dog that I was babysitting off Rover, barking outside. He said, " maybe you should take your barking dog and go". I turned around and realized this had nothing to do with me, and this man was just having a bad day. Still, he should have known that it was not only unprofessional and extremely unkind to treat me this way, but that even outside of a customer service job, this would be considered mean and uncalled for. I did not deserve to be treated this way, he offered me nothing, no apology, no form of sincereness and I would doubt I'm the first person he's treated this way. What a terrible experience, and I will be sure to tell others not to go...
