This isnt so much about Shubert's Ice Cream & Candy, as it is about the ownership and people who run it. Random... but i was fishing in Chester, and somehow forgot my bag full of lures, reels, and all sorts of fishing equipment on the bank in the middle of nowhere. Somehow the owners of Shubert's found my bag, and shipped it to me here in San Jose. They paid $12 fee to mail it, too. Their address was on the box, so I googled it to find out who sent it to me. When I figured out it was shubert's, I called and their daughter picked up the line. I asked to pay her back for the mailing fee, and she refused payment. These folks are GREAT people, I couldn't believe myself when I opened up the box to find ALL of my fishing gear still in the exact same place as I left it, all of my lures, my reels, everything. Its like they didn't even go through my bag, other than to find my license with my address to ship it back to me. These people deserve nothing by the best, really good people......

We arrived around 9:30pm and there was a good ten people ahead of us. That didn't seem to matter though because they had three employees working and they moved swiftly. I expected to rushed because how close to closing time it was but this didn't happen. The employees who helped us, while moving quickly to assemble our order, were friendly and helpful, describing flavors and providing samples. We had brought our dog and they happily prepared a cup of sweet cream for him.
The ice cream was the best I've had in a long time. It was nice and soft compared to the store bought ice cream. I really appreciated the range of flavors they had though I had a hard time choosing just three for my banana split. I loved their almond doodle flavor, it tasted like cinnamon toast crunch.
Overall, I had a great time and was really impressed with both the service and their product. I will...
Read moreHands down the best ice cream store in Chico. I love their ice creams, and I generally get a scoop or two after a good meal.
Salty oak’s been my current favourite, with a tint of salt and chunks of chocolate, it’s a perfect blend for me. I’ve heard that their mint chocolate thins are delicious too, I’m not a big fan of that combo. But, everyone I’ve known, just love it.
I’ve heard that their lemon custard ice cream and cookies n cream taste good too. Oh and don’t forget their root beer, heard that one’s… one of a kind! You’ll also find yourself surrounded by their collection of chocolates, stickers and souvenirs, apart from the ice creams. Go stop by if you’re in town!!
Update: my friend who’s a big fan of chocolate covered mints, loved their chocolates!
Almond fudge: The base isn’t too chocolatey or sweet, it’s just right and the nuts balance the ice-cream well. But salty oak’s still...
