12 Volt Tattoo Chico — Local services in Chico

This is not a review of the tattooing services here. I'm sure the artists here are very talented as I had booked an appointment with one after looking at their impressive portfolio. However, the one star review is for the absolute lack of knowledge about ADA laws. This shop refused me service because of my service dog. That breaks federal law. I wasn't going to make a scene so if they wanted to break the law, then so be it. They stated it's shop policy to not let animals in for sanitation reasons. My service dog did not need to be attached to my hip. She only needed to be in view of me. I have gotten many tattoos at other shops that understand ADA laws. My dog has sat on the floor, not interfering with tattoo work at all. However, they still refused me service. So, the artist refunded my deposit and I left to file an ADA complaint about disability discrimination. Because that is exactly what happened at this shop. I'm sure everyone here is very knowledgeable about tattooing about you might want to brush up on disability laws. It feels horrible to be turned away because of a disability. I was treated SO BADLY! Had an appointment scheduled with 2 hours of time to get everything perfect plus the time scheduled to get the tattoo. Had already discussed fully exactly what I wanted with Chris face to face as well as sending him an email a couple weeks before the appointment, yet when I walk in I am told two things 1: that I was late and he already called in another client; I wasn’t late I was 10 Minutes early and have the business card with the appointment time on it to prove it. 2: he drew up something with placement so different from what we had discussed that it was basically an entirely different tattoo. And told me too bad, I’d have to leave if I didn’t get that exact thing. And all of this was done with so much disrespect he might as well as spit on my partner & I. Only once before have I been treated so much like shit by anybody, let alone someone I planned to shell out loads of money to. What should have been a great fourth tattoo experience turned into a nightmare, never mind the fact that the tattoo was the only birthday present I was going to be getting this year and instead I’ve spent all morning crying. I advise you if you plan on getting a tattoo by Pedro at 12 Volt. Be prepared. Service was pour, appointment got cancelled unexpectedly and reschedule hours before my scheduled time. When I arrived he was not willing to give me the exact tattoo I wanted. Everything I told him I wanted on the tattoo, he had to put his own twist too it. After the fact he agreed to do the tattoo when I set the appointment.. He refused to do it the way I wanted when I showed up because he didn’t want to copy a tattoo someone else did. In my opinion he’s not that big of a artist to worry about that and if I’m paying, showed up on time & didn’t waste your time then, I should be able to get what I want respectfully.
