THEY’VE REOPENED!!!
One of my most bummed days, was coming back into town the day or so after Tin Roof closed.
I was forced to move out of state after the Campfire, and I dearly missed my favorite bakery — Tin Roof.
Nothing I found in Washington or Arizona has compared.
I didn’t expect to come back to the area, though, when I found out I was — I and my mother couldn’t be more excited to go back to Tin Roof.
Only to find out it closed its doors, once and for all, within a day or two of us arriving back in town.
I know of some other bakeries in the area, that probably have adequate pastries. Though, majority of time I look on Google for “Desserts in Chico,” none of those places seemed to inspire me, like Tin Roof did.
Well, fast forward to yesterday..
I was in Chico, running errands, and got a bit of a sweet tooth. So, again, I searched for “Desserts in Chico.”
And low and behold..
TIN ROOF BAKERY SHOWS UP!!!
And from my understanding, they’ve been reopened for the past four months.
I suppose they didn’t show up when I have searched for “Desserts in Chico,” prior, being I’d always click the “open now” option, and it’s usually after 3pm — which, is when Tin Roof closes.
I looked at the reviews, and saw one from the last month — and then saw one from three months ago, stating they have reopened.
It was about 2:30, and Google said they were closing soon.
I thought how this could be too good to be true, though, I figured I’d drive over and see, anyways.
And praise Baby Jesus and Mother Mary — there was a flashing “Open” sign, in the window!
HALLELUJAH!
I went in, and it was as if nothing had changed.
Not one bit.
I’m fairly certain Nick, I believe I remember her name to be, one of the lovely ladies whom helped me, was on staff prior to shutting down, even — she looked quite familiar; and was so pleasantly helpful; as was the other lovely lady, who’s name I didn’t catch.
All the pastries were as beautiful and elegant as they ever were.
And goodness gracious, that lemon meringue tart was EASILY the best I have ever had; and certainly reminded me why I love this bakery so.
When I walked in, being this was the last thing I expected to happen in my day, I even needed to take a moment to take it all in.
And I know what you’re probably thinkin’..
I might be coming off a bit dramatic.
Though, it’s been my dream to own a coffee shop for about the last 20+ years, ever since I was a teen — and Tin Roof really set a standard for me, in a lot of ways.
I think they might be a bit more pricey, than they were, previously. Though, that’s understandable, for a variety of reasons.
I’d say I paid between $5-7 for each item I bought (rounding up, a bit), with the exception of the thumbprint cookies.
And if you buy 6 pastries — you get 5% off.
If you buy 12 — you get 10% off.
Tin Roof is a real gem of a coffee shop and bakery — and I am so grateful someone decided to buy this business and reopen it.
Praying for their (inevitable)...
Read moreThis is one of the better places in Chico to get good tasting coffee and pastries. In my opinion they have the best scones in Chico. The only problem that I see with this place is that one of the Baristas that is occasionally there when I go there is totally dead set against using hard cups (ceramic cups). Every time she works it's really hard to get a ceramic cup from her and she automatically goes to the paper cup even after requesting the hard cup when you order your coffee. I've never had a problem getting a ceramic cup when she is not there. Ceramic cups save a lot of paper and plastic waste. If your dining in ceramic cups should be the standard unless otherwise requested by the customer. When ordering my coffee again today she again defaulted to the paper cup when I specifically requested it in a hard cup. When arriving at the bar to fetch my coffee I requested she put it in a ceramic cup. She said okay, turned around, made a mess of the cup and handed it back and seemed totally annoyed. This is not good business. This type of coffee is a want not a need. People come to Tin Roof for the experience and for the quality not for...
Read moreFinally made it to Chico early! I was told about this place from a new friend I met at the dog park. What a treat! Started with a bear claw. Probably the best I have ever had. The filling tasted of fresh ground almonds perfectly sweetened surrounded by a tender pastry and topped with power sugar. Ham and cheese croissant. It was good. I liked the cheese. Breakfast bun. Layers of buttery goodness with cinnamon and sugar. Nice chewy outer layer, golden brown. Lemon croissant! Lemony, buttery and the wonderful pastry. So good. Any lemon lovers dream. I wish I bought a second one for later. Chocolate dipped macaroons. Chewy and delicate. Good chocolate dip on the bottom. Best for last. I don't know the name. Salted caramel tart with chocolate ganache. I felt this was a dessert that made me feel like I had visited Paris. The tart crust was firm and flaky the perfect vehicle for the salted caramel filling. The filling was decadent, smooth and lightly salted with chunks of salt. Only to be outdone by ganache. Do not leave this bakery without one of these to share...
